I don't think I'd have a problem bringing him back for another couple of years if he's willing to take a bench role. I think he'd make a solid 4th or 5th outfielder.

I'm a big fan of Werth and what he's done. I kind of agree with him about the "fluke" nature of several of his injuries and that they really aren't reflective of his body just breaking down. He does seem to still have a little something in the tank, but I think the AL is where he belongs after this year. He could still play a little LF/RF for somebody, but he mostly needs to DH. It's not that his body can't handle playing the field, but he's just not a good enough defender anymore. I'd rather have a versatile guy with more speed and a better glove like Goodwin as a 4th OF.

I have a feeling there is going to be a little "magic" with Werth to close his Nats career. It would be so sweet to see him get some big hits and then be in a parade celebrating a World Series.

IF Werth were to return to DC, I think he'd need to start working at 1B. He could essentially play the same role as Adam Lind, although a righty and not a lefty bat. You'd use him to rest Zimmerman and play the occassional LF.

I just don't know that Werth wants to be reduced to a bench guy in DC. I think he could find an opportunity in the AL to be a primary DH that plays a little OF as well.

I have a friend who likes to say Werth is the most important player in the history of the Nats. I don't go that far but his point is that no one took the Nats seriously (especially other FA) until they frankly overpaid him. And while I'm not a big fan of his personality (he comes across as rather aloof, though people who know him say otherwise) I think he has made a definite impact on the organization. Running guys like Nyger Morgan of out here was enough for me.

I think most were feeling pretty optimistic with the franchise's direction going in 2011 but the Werth signing was a game changer. He stunk in 2011 but was very timely as a leadoff hitter for the Nats in 2012, had the walkoff, and then was a key part of the middle of the lineup for multiple playoff teams afterwards. Yes, he hasn't been a star hitter like Murphy or Harper but he did signal to baseball it was time to take the Nationals seriously and gave the organization some juice.

Werth is definitely the most important signing the Nats have made, but Scherzer could take that title pretty easily with a big postseason.

I don't know about most important signing, but it will take something pretty special to top the Werthquake as the biggest moment in Nats baseball.

As much as I like Werth, I only want him back if it is for a low level contract and he comes in with a playing time expectation like Chris Heisey. Pinch hitting with an occasional start. Harper and Eaton are definite starters and Michael Taylor with a decent finish is the third guy. Goodwin has earned a spot on the roster. Werth would be a good right handed pair to Goodwin on the bench.

I don't know if Werth would want to do that. And I also think there has be at least a couple other teams in baseball who wouldn't mind taking a shot on a one year deal with him as a high OBP table setter in the lineup.

Then you have to count that Stevenson and Bautista still may develop into solid bench players and Difo will need a spot in the lineup somewhere if Murphy and Turner are healthy.

Just a guess but I think the Werewerth has enough money to fund Werewerths for the next 30 generations. He may want to come back to the Nats if he thinks the Nats will beat the Dodgers next year and to play alongside Harper his last year here. But then again greed seems to affect the thinking of most pro athletes contrary to their best interest. See Zimmermann ans Desmond

Stupid greedy pro atheletes who want to get paid what they're worth. They should be more loyal like teams who stick by players even when they get injured or struggle
