Depends on where you are. Around these parts, you'll see a 'merican flag about every 2 blocks.

I was reminded of when I worked in SW DC next to an open air parking lot.    Every other car had a flag decal or window flag after 9/11.   Last time I looked at the lot, I didn't see a one.    Walked my neighborhood/town on Memorial Day (saw 8 flags for maybe a couple of hundred homes).    Veterans Day there were even fewer.     American flag flies on the big occasions (to me) and the Steelers' flag on Sundays.    When they fly together (Super Bowl), Old Glory gets the place of honor.    So ya see, not all Steelers' fans are intolerable.    :P

driving south and west to NC, they seem to increase as you drive. We have one the real estate agent who sold us our house gave  us- it comes out memorial day weekend then goes back to the shed- I just don't see the point- does anyone really think they are either heartening our service members or are they just making sure you know they don't support team taliban?

Only the "big" ones for me  ...  Memorial/Flag Day/4th/Veterans Day.    Every once in awhile I'll put it out on an odd historical date just to peak the neighbor's curiosity.    They ask  ...   :)

I usually buy a new one each year and fly it all year. To me it's just beautiful to see. I have no problem with those that don't fly one, doesn't make you less American, maybe less 'merican, but I just love the sight of it. My Grandfather was a WWII vet and flew the flag year round. I think I get some of my patriotism and/or love of our flag from him. I still get chills when I hear the National Anthem but usually only instrumentally. Too many people try to gussy up a song that doesn't need gussied up.

I think the more rural a town is and/or the further south you go, the amount of flags flying increases.

I've always been a fan of my uncle's pontoon boat sporting both a jolly roger and a naval academy flag

that's pretty cool. I need to get a new US flag and bracket this spring. I might buy another bracket too so I can fly seasonal sports flags as well.

the nice part about using a flag one weekend a year (my wife wants to fly holiday flags, I refuse and have so far won), is both bracket and flag last

we were out in shenandoah a few weeks ago and spotted a house flying a confederate flag, and a bud light flag.  I wanted to sneak out there and replace at least one with a rainbow flag.

there was a house near Coolidge corner in boston sporting a UN flag and a Rainbow Flag- pretty sure that house would get torched in a lot of this country

Wonder where this part of the thread will get merged... anywho, I will probably add a Gadsden flag as well. No, I'm not a Tea Party nut bag, but it represents 2A rights to me and a lot of fellow gun owners.

You'll see a fair amount of Confederate flags in these parts. Well, I guess I should say that here, it's not odd to see one, but they are much fewer than the US flags. They are much more likely to be seen in the Oldtown and Flinstone areas as well as Little Orleans etc...

My dad was Navy WWII in the south Pacific.   My FiL was a Navy "lifer" Korea and Vietnam.   My wife's an Army veteran and I'm an Army veteran.    They tried to trade me for future considerations but the Ruskies wouldn't make the trade.   I'm with you and HS.   I respect those who do and those who don't fly the flag.    The ones who piss me off are the ones who hide behind it to try to justify their agenda.   Can't beat the NA instrumentally by one of the military bands  ...  Pershing's own or the President's own preferably.

On topic,  "Go Steelers".     :)

Yabut you see the confederate battle flag on every block, except certain cell blocks where you work.

Seriously, this flag discussion is great.  Do you want to keep it in a Red Loft thread or leave it here.  See the poll above.

Thems is hidden under our work shirts... As admittedly redneck as we are around here, there's not nearly as many Confederate flags as you'd imagine. Put it to you this way, when I see one, I take notice. Not at all surprised, but not as common as would be expected.

There is no poll!!!

I think so far its red loft safe but probably deserves its own thread.

Well, there was this email I got explaining that, if I clicked on a link and gave a credit card with a security code, I could put that up and satisfy many.
