our plan should be to win them all.

That's the idea!!!!

(And, seriously, the Nats can win any game...I almost expect them to win 2 out of 3 every series.)

So is Espinosa only batting righty from now on? That's what Phil Wood was saying. Is this being discussed anywhere?

Just a guess - no, but for the near term he only starts against lefties.

The Nats pitchers have 349 strikeouts already on the year.  Extrapolate that out another three times and you get 1396 strikeouts.  That's over $50,000 at $37 per strikeout; at $3700 like you suggested it would be over  $5 million.  I understand that $37/K sounds really cheap but over the course of the season it adds up to a very nice donation, and I'm not sure the local Toyota dealers can afford to spend $5 million (or $500k) on a single promotion like this.  Maybe $137 per strikeout, which would have been a donation of over $190,000, might have been doable, I guess, but I don't think this is a mean-spirited effort.

$50,000 from ALL of the dealers together is what I complained about. $5 million is excessive, I was using hyperbole, I admit it. If they can do $100 per strikeout for Balmer, do $137 here. I guess calling it the same as 37 cents was too much hyperbole

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 24th win, each season:

2012 - 20th May (41st match of season)
2005 - 22nd May (44th match)
2010 - 27th May (48th match)
2008 - 30th May (56th match)
2011 - 1st June (55th match)
2006 - 3rd June (56th match)
2007 - 6th June (59th match)
2009 - 4th July (79th match)

Just for grins:

1925 Washington "Griffmen" or Nationals: 24 - 14, 2nd place, 3 games behind Philadelphia A's; game at http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/WS1/WS1192505290.shtml

'25 team a couple games ahead of the 2012 team, but 1925 team was at full strength. Note the hitters: Sam Rice, Joe Judge Goose Goslin, and Ossie Bluege all hitting over .300. Rice at .337 (.798 OPS) in CF and Goslin at .368 (1.014 OPS in LF) would fit right into the 2012 team.

Baltimore's pitcher's have 299 Ks going into today.  that projects to about 1200 Ks, or $120,000 for the year.  Could have done $73 for #37 as the promo and come to around $100K, which is more comparable.  But any contribution is good, and I'm hoping Ford dealers sponsor Gio at $47 a K.

I am challenging them to give $3700 per strikeout. They can afford it.

Spending other people's money just because they can afford it?  :lmao:  :stir:

About 2009: that year's edition went into the All-Star break at 26-61...just two more wins than this year's Nats have now. Pity they couldn't have won two more during this homestand....

MLB attendance figures as they now stand (ranked by gross per-home-fixture attendance), after the first weekend of interleague play: http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance - does anyone else think it odd that the bottom seven teams are all in the American League?

24 Kansas City
25 Baltiless
26 Tampa Bay
27 Chisox
28 Seattle
29 Oakland
30 Cleveland

...meanwhile the Nats have a 4,812/fixture bulge on their Parkway rivals...come on Angelos, you need to sell tasty group ticket packages to New York and Boston fans, just like our front office did with the Phillies!

[sad though to see Cleveland currently leading the AL Central, 2 1/2 games clear of the Chisox, and they can't draw flies to a picnic - remember not so long ago when the then-Jacobs-Field was sold out for the season?]

Pre-financial meltdown.  Cleveland is a ghosttown for jobs now.

Don't tell that to Chris Perez.

I think that's it. Also the slow "hollowing out" of manufacturing from Pennsylvania west to Illinois or Wisconsin. I saw Buffalo around Auigust of '07, and it was spooky to drive from a hotel in the suburb of Auburn right down to the HSBC tower during rush-hour but never see a traffic build-up.

Yeah I definitely don't think it's right for a millionaire baseball player to try to to berate fans for not using their hard earned money on a game.  Bet he won over a lot of fans with those comments.
