hrm.  I *think* I may get in on this.  I suppose.  I may need someone to school me on how this works exactly, though.

Here's a quick overview:
Rotisserie Weekly Mon-Sun
Position   Lineup Maximum

Catcher             2
First Basemen     1
Second Basemen 1
Third Basemen    1
Shortstops         1
Outfielders         5
Utility (wild card) 2
Pitchers             9
All Positions       22
Reserves: from waivers after draft = 2 players

Traditional Rotisserie
Batting Category          Pitching Category[/u]
Team Batting Average    Team Earned Run Average
Runs Batted In              Wins
Home Runs                    Saves
Stolen BasesTeam          WHIP (walks + hits per inning pitched)Team Batting Average

EDIT - The automated draft league is NOT using 5 x 5 Rotisserie Scoring, which may have been reported.
So Batting Runs scored and Pitchers' Strikeouts are NOT a factor.

The statistics your team accumulates are the actual results from the 22 fantasy players you actually start each week.  If your fantasy pitchers accumulate the most wins in our league at season's end, you get 10 points in that category.  If you have the fewest saves, you get 1 point in that.  Your grand total for all 10 categories is compared to each of the other 9 teams.

You will be able to see where your scoring is weak or strong all season.  You may decide to drop your poorer performers for better players available from your reserves, from waivers, or you can trade with another team.  If your player goes into a slump or on the DL, dumping him from the active roster and replacing him with the best player available may enhance your scoring.  Or not.  With 24 players on each team, we hopefully will have the top 240 players in MLB on our teams.  But nobody really knows who they will be.  You can look under Statistics for 2006 and click on headings to rank them in the above categories, to see who did what last year.

I've never done fantasy baseball, but I've done fantasy NFL.  We really need to get iluvryanzimmerman in this, for the sheer entertainment value of seeing Ryan Zimmerman picked first in the draft, (if she gets first pick.)

I've done fantasy football...but the league I was in did some sort of head-to-head matchup every week.

are you saying that this won't be like that, and the scores won't be tallied until after the season is over?

An NFL salary cap league uses the same kind of rotisserie scoring as this league, with usually 8 NFL categories.  In both sports, you are jockeying for a better position all season, trying to get ahead of those with higher grand totals, or to stay on top if you're already there.  I did salary cap years before head-to-head NFL.  Salary cap is an absolute rip-off in NFL, since most charge a fee for every single roster move and for free agents.

An MLB fantasy team can also be set up as head-to-head and I think it works the same way as NFL.  My brother won one of those years ago.  I think it would be very time-consuming, looking at your upcoming opponents' rosters and which pitchers could be facing off, etc.  You have a W-L record and try to make a playoff, as in the NFL.  A group that does head-to-head NFL fantasy where I work uses rotisserie for baseball.  162 games is just too much work, with more scoring players, compared to 17 NFL head-to-head games.

I do think that we should run a mock automated and live draft, because the automated draft is really bad in baseball.  In the NFL, you can rank players in pick order, regardless of position.  But in a baseball automated draft, you must designate the position first, and rank players within that position.  If you do no ranking at all, this is the current CBS Sportsline list of who would get drafted first at each slot, and the order in which they'd be drafted:

Default Draft Order:   First Pick at Each Position:
1   Starting Pitcher (1st)   Johan Santana, MIN, SP
2   Relief Pitcher (1st)   Francisco Rodriguez, ANA, RP
3   Left Fielder (1st)   Alfonso Soriano, CHC, LF
4   Center Fielder (1st)   Grady Sizemore, CLE, CF
5   Right Fielder (1st)   Vladimir Guerrero, ANA, RF
6   Catcher (1st)   Joe Mauer, MIN, C
7   First Baseman (1st)   Albert Pujols, STL, 1B
8   Second Baseman    Chase Utley, PHI, 2B
9   Third Baseman   Alex Rodriguez, NYY, 3B
10   Shortstop   Jose B. Reyes, NYM, SS
11   Catcher (2nd)   Victor J. Martinez, CLE, C
12   Left Fielder (1st)   Carl Crawford, TB, LF
13   Center Fielder (2nd)   Carlos Beltran, NYM, CF
14   Right Fielder (2nd)   Bobby Abreu, NYY, RF   Utility/Wild Card
15   First Baseman (2nd)   Ryan Howard, PHI, 1B   Utility/Wild Card
16   Starting Pitcher (2nd)   Chris Carpenter, STL, SP
17   Starting Pitcher (3rd)   Brandon Webb, ARI, SP
18   Starting Pitcher (4th)   Roy Halladay, TOR, SP
19   Starting Pitcher (5th)   Roy Oswalt, HOU, SP
20   Relief Pitcher (2nd)   Joe Nathan, MIN, RP
21   Relief Pitcher (3rd)   Mariano Rivera, NYY, RP
22   Relief Pitcher (4th)   Billy Wagner, NYM, RP
   After the draft:
23   Reserve player   from waivers
24   Reserve player   from waivers

Albert Pujols has been the average first pick in MLB drafts so far, but you can see that he would NOT be picked by default until the 7th pick!  Since you don't know what positions are being drafted by others, you could see better players going randomly to teams picking after you.  A live draft would be better, since we could pick as many rounds as we wanted and then let the automated picking take over.  I don't follow other teams much, but I can make better choices than what an automated draft will do.  The ranking lists you can see after sign-up show CBS' 2007 projected stats for each player, which naturally disses the Nationals players.

I hope CBS will be adding players as we get closer to Opening Day, because they only have 60 starting pitchers to choose from now, and we'll draft 50.  Also, the team picking last in Round 1 does NOT pick first in Round 2.  The rules have a schedule listing who gets what pick each round.  I wonder if they'll change the NFL to do this in 2007?

I'll join, though I'm not huge on it being on sportsline instead of yahoo. Also, if its for money count me out. This should be a friendly league for bragging rights. I only do money leagues with my friends.

This is a free league, and I agree - that's how this Forum should set them up.
Click on My Messages at the top of the Forum screen, then New Message, and send your email address in a private message to Senators2005.  (He will pick up an email address posted here too.)  He will have CBS Sportsline send you an invitation to join.  Just click on the line in the email and use the password after registering a team with CBS Sportsline.  I already had an ID, but logged out and registered with a new name and different email address, to be able to use my user name from here.

The current league has an automated draft for March 29, 2007.  Senators2005 should now set up a Live Draft league, since we will have 11 players for 10 spots.  We need to pick a date and time that works.  As more people want to sign up for an Automated Draft, someone can drop out to play in the Live Draft league.  I really think we will be able to fill several leagues from the Forum.  More people will be looking at this as we get closer to Opening Day (so it ought to be a Sticky topic at the top of the page!  Hint, hint.)  Spring training is barely here.

Rotos are scored every day every game - but you try to be the best in each of the categories such as Wins, Strikeouts, ERA, WHIP, Home Runs, Stolen Bases, Batting Average etc. etc.  All the placements of your team in each of these categories is averaged against your opponents to come up with ranking based on your daily score...the person on top at the end of the season wins.

For the record, I would prefer a live draft, but I'd also be fine with an automated one because of the beginners.

I'll take a head count for a live draft later - see what kind of numbers we get.

I got ur email Sens, but I'm gonna stick with the automated because the live drafts for baseball take a long time and I usually over-think stuff in them, and hurt myself.

the email you got for the Mock League is still an automated draft Nats19 - it's a test run so you can see how it works.  This league will be disbanded after it is initiated.

... - but Nats2playoffs and Air Zimmerman you really should consider the fact that there are BEGINNERS in this league that don't understand the complexities of a live draft and will be disadvantaged to those that know what they are doing...
When I first signed up for NFL head-to-head fantasy, I also thought that I should try an automated draft first.  But once I read how it works, I realized I'd be doing a lot more preparation than I would for a live draft.  Unless you rank enough players to get you through the whole draft, you end up managing a team assigned to you by a computer.  The 90 seconds for your turn in a live draft goes by fast, so you need to at least have a written ranking in front of you.  But you really don't have to rearrange 220 MLB player rankings to your liking, because you can only pick 22 of them anyway.

I'm not going to do as much preparation as you, because for every Ryan Zimmerman, there are probably 9 busts; the same way in the NFL.  I can wait.

If someone is going to do all that ranking in advance, they probably will do fine in a live draft.  If someone really isn't sure how to rearrange the lists much, or wants to minimize their planning, they can still have a great time with an automated draft.  The CBS rankings largely follow the 2006 actual stats.

We already have Forum newcomers signed up in the automated draft, so let's get a 2nd league set up for a live draft.  We've got 6 weeks to fill it.  If someone still wants to get in an automated draft, I'd be happy to drop out for them, if we have the live draft in process.  Others might do the same, so we add more people to both leagues.

OK I decided to kill the mock draft in favor of nats2playoffs Live draft offer.  I'll leave it up to Nats2playoffs to organize the live draft league.

HOWEVER DO NOT QUIT THE CURRENT AUTO DRAFT UNLESS YOU HAVE A REPLACEMENT
(SOMEBODY WHO WILL PLAY IN YOUR PLACE)

The game requires that 10 players be in place at the time of the draft (March 29th) or the league will be disbanded automatically.

The league with the autodraft is now disbanding in favor of some live draft?

This is exactly what I was afraid of when Nats2playoffs brought up this whole live draft thing: confusion.

NO - the auto draft league is still in effect: Nats2playoffs will start up a Live draft (whenever he gets around to it) totally seperate and in a different thread.
