Any delusions of $100+M back payments are just that. If you really think bankrupting MASN is going to open up payroll you're delusional. The second some needledick non sports fan in DC figures out that their cable bill went up $4 for CSN/whatever werthless RSN the Nats get put on you can go ahead and send in the clowns and declare the RSN bubble dead.

I'm pretty sure MASN can't ignore 300 million in obligations if a court rules they have to pay it.

Sure, they can always declare bankruptcy that afternoon too.

If in Peter Angelos I'm going to appeal any decision not in my favour until the RSN bubble pops.  That's when the real fun will begin.

That could be the best action possible for the Nats, for that would end MASN's financial noose around the Nats neck and end the domination of MASN as TV provider.

Sure, they can always declare bankruptcy that afternoon too.

But if MASN goes bankrupt, then that puts the Nats rights on the open market, which is what they want, right?

That's going straight into Lerner pockets.

With the Nat's as their largest creditor, great, I'm sure angelos would love the nats heading the creditors committee

At post judgment interest rates? I'm sure the Lerner's would be fine with that

well, the Os would also be a creditor for the same amount as the Nats because under the terms of the deal, don't they get the same rights fee?

Wouldnt the interest be different, I.e. one would be nominal, the other would be the result of a judgment? That wouldnt be an insignifigant amount

I'm sure the shareholders at Enron feel the same way.

Really? How much value is Phil Wood and Ray Knight going to generate during the asset firesale?

Sure, the carriage rights which just as easily could be werth little when the RSN bubble pops.  I'm not really sure why everyone is so hot on the Lerners "winning" this, it's just more money to pay down the debt on the team. Besides, even if they did reinvest some of that money into the team they'd end up pissing away on another Zimmerman signing.

I remember all the fanbois were ready to burn the town because they wouldn't extend Zimmerman for life before it was even necessary. :?

How much do FP and Bob make?  Fire them and hire good-looking cheerleaders.

If MASN goes bankrupt then the Orioles don't have a network because CSN would rather have the Nationals.  Perhaps Angelos can start his own network just for the Orioles?

Do you really think that would be the case?

Can't imagine a network preferring a team with Nelson Cruz and Bud Norris over one with Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg.

What? CSN preferring the Nationals?  Absolutely.

It's a bigger market.  It would complete their menu of Washington pro sports teams and I assume they'd treat the Nationals as an asset rather than as a burden like MASN does.
