What I can't figure out is why a writer covering the Brewers has a picture of Teddy as his Twitter avatar.

Maybe he's from Maine.

One MLB official told Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel recently that "word is spreading in the industry that the Washington Nationals have emerged as the favorite" to sign Prince Fielder.

What to make of this rumor? Haudricourt is reliable, but he made it clear that he is relaying the opinion of "the industry" as passed through one MLB official. So the source doesn't appear to be from Scott Boras' camp, nor from the Nationals. Still, the rumor echoes something ESPN's Buster Olney wrote on Thursday: "Some rival executives strongly believe that Washington will be the eventual landing place for Fielder." That same day, a Nationals player suggested to Jon Heyman the team was in the mix.

If the Nats get Prince, will they move ahead of the Braves?

Explain please.

Back when the bidding for Tex was hot, some guy joined the forum claiming to be from some blog or newspaper (or similar) based in Maine.  He also claimed to have big time insider info swearing that the Nats were going to sign Tex to a blockbuster deal - insinuating that it was basically done and just had to be announced.  Once it was announced that Tex signed with the Yankees, we never saw nor heard from that fellow again.

Remember the Maine guy who said it was basically a done deal for Tex signing with the Nats?

I was starting to believe him.  I wanted to believe him.  I still think he was on to something at the time, but at the same time am embarrassed I was sucked into the hope.

Ah, I see.

For a while the BPG board had a guy who seemed to have a good source of inside info, although the other posters there were not convinced.  I used to watch his posts for news that I could then spring on the MLB board; most notably this guy had the Strasburg signing confirmed five minutes before the media.  It's been a couple years since I read his stuff and now I can't even remember his login name.

If we get Fielder, i think we will move Morse at the deadline (if Harper is ready and/or appears to be ready).

Man I hope it's true but everyone was reporting the Marlins were the favorite to land Pujols and then the Angels swooped in.  I just hope we don't overpay.  Come on Rizzo get it done without going overboard.

You mean you never called him to confirm:
Well the 1% happened...It seems as though our source was correct. The Nats had been and always were the highest offer on the table...until today. There are a few reports about specific numbers, I won't go through the list, but it looks as though we were right and it took a Yankee swoop in at midnight to change it from happening. We have some off the record stuff that would make your skin crawl even further....lets just leave it at...another shoe will soon be dropping. I do take some pride that our guy was right from the start, hopefully you guys see it that way as we have been told by more than 1 name you would recognize, we were not off the mark. Anyway, we are all going to cry in out collective beers at

http://www.youcastr.com/casts/listen/1298

if you care to listen and call (603) 397 3559 9PM to whenever...Thanks guys

If Fielder is signed we would totally be ahead of the braves. I don't see the point in trading Morse. Imagine the heart of a lineup. Werth, Zimm, Fielder, Morse, Harper. Chased by Ramos and Espi. Once we got that I wouldn't want to break that up.

I hope this isn't Boras using the Nats as leverage, but I wouldn't put it past him.

I don't know why everyone laughs so much at that incident.

I think he was right at the time, but the Yanks simply just came out of nowhere and played the trump card.
