Nyjer makes around the league minimum in salary. Werth will make 126 million through 7 years. Tell me that doesn't rattle you when you see someone with those poor of numbers. Nats fan rant on werthless all the time. Why can't nyjer?

Cause Nyjer is a......

He will wear out his welcome in Milwaukee at some point. I hope our pitchers hit him every time they face him next year.  :whip: :whip: :whip:

we shouldn't compare Morgan and Werth, we should compare Morgan and Cutter Dykstra.

morgan was a better player than werth this year you can't deny that

but morgan was a POS slacker who gave up on the team, Werth brought a new attitude to the Nationals and despite his struggles with the bat I truly believe he made a big impact here and will continue to do so(albeit that attitude is in no way worth $126 million lol).

Choosing foxhole partners from guys we've never met in person is kind of a risky proposition, but Werth actively undermined his manager while no such stories are known about Morgan.  Nyjer is a loose cannon while Werth is an albatross.  Which one do I want on my team?  The one with the higher BA, SLG, OPB, and fielding %.

Lol.

He made is a whole year in Milwaukee without the fans chanting Werthless for most of his at bats.  And I can't remember Morgan posing, then strutting back to the dugout with his face puckered up like a heroin model after each strikeout.

Sure, Morgan is a dikweed. But so is Werth.   It isn't often I defend Morgan. In fact, this is the first time, almost certainly the last.  But he did have a point when he said "who the hell do you think you are, you've been here what, two weeks" (or something like that).

+1

this too.

the article didn't change my opinion about Nyjer (glad he's gone, glad things have worked out for him, think he's genuinely crazy), but definitely lowered Werth in my esteem.

You're referring to his "Knock Out" look, right?  You know, the one he had after watching a meatball fly past him for strike 3.

So now the albatross has Zimmm lobbying Rizzo to go after a CF so that the werthless one doesn't have to endure the rigors of having to play a tough defensive position.  Considering that he didn't come close to earning his keep at the plate maybe he should suck it up and play wherever he's asked to play.  Maybe Jayson didn't hear that we have a young Yankee fan in the minors who is expected to play RF in the near future and that he's going to be the one to have to shift position.  If only the old man would hire Shanahan as a spring training consultant to come in and straighten out some of these vets on this team who think that they are running the show.

Quote
One of those additions needs to be a center fielder, Zimmerman said, because he doesn't believe Jayson Werth wants to be subjected to the physical grind of that position over a full season.

That's it.  The best is after watching a called strike three for the third out when he makes his slow strut down to first to wait for his cap and glove.  I'm not sure if there is a YouTube video and even then I'm not sure if it would do the strut justice.  Seeing in person makes you wish you had D cells in your pocket.  Don't worry if you missed it, you'll get about 80 more chances in 2012.

Oh yeah, saw that one in person quite a bit this past season.  The strut is pretty great but the real treat is when he just stands at first base looking like he can't find his car in the CostCo parking lot.

He's following proper etiquette, not one step on the field in order to allow the other team to depart, not one step toward the dugout as it is the help's task to come to him, all the while enjoying the feeling of the fresh plug that he inserted prior to his at bat.

Someone, like his agent, needs to take Nyjer aside and explain how it would have been better to say:
'I had a better year than Jayson this year.  I wish him the best next year - except against the Brewers".

Where is the advanced stat on being borderline-psychotic?

People do realize that Nyjer is gone because he sucked balls his last year here (that's a whole year of suck mind you) and is legitimately bat crap crazy, right?

So does Morgan start to pout or go psychotic after riding pine against Carpenter?

No, I don't think he's gone because of his 2010 performance, and yes, I think he's gone because he's crazy. I honestly think that the team went into spring training with the idea that 2010 was an anomaly and that he would regain his 2009 form. And then during spring training they realized that he is not a good fit here. It was a personality thing.  And I think they made the right decision, despite the successful year he's had.

Morgan in Spring Training displayed showed no willingness to change. He was still over throwing cut-off men and getting picked off. I do not know if Nyjer would have gotten the same wake-up call had he stayed with the Nationals. He was told by a guy brought in to be a voice in the clubhouse to stop sluffing off and his excuse was, "You don't know me." That is what the teenage sluts on Maury say. Nyjer had so many issues last season and showed no signs of rectifying them in Spring Training. This is one of those things where you really have to get inside the human mind to know if Nyjer could have changed and stayed in DC or if his time was up, and moving on helped him turn it around.

And as far as Werth's looks of confusion on striking out I much prefer them to Nyjer's strut back to the dugout after swinging at a low and away breaking ball.

I don't think it's the same "you don't know me" (though I can't say for sure, haven't watched Maury since he did sports here in the 70s).  I think it's more "how do you presume to be the leader here when you've been here  two weeks".  I don't think it was appropriate to put the burden of being an enforcer on a new player.   Someone else should have assumed that role, the most appropriate player would have been Zimmerman.

Just thought I would throw these numbers out.

Nyjer 2010 BA .253 / .319  /.314  509 ABs with 88 SO

Werth 2011     .232 / .330  /.389  561 AB's and 160 SO  (almost Dunnesque)

And now with the restriction on openly gay members lifted, could be a whole new foxhole ambience.   At least they should be better decorated.
