True, especially in the run support area. But Sabathia has always been a horse, the kind of guy you build your rotation around. Sucks that the Yankees can just buy up a guy like that, but it is what it is.

Difference being it's a huge gamble for the Nats to put down that kind of coin on a player, while for the Yankees if they make a mistake, they can just write it off and move on.

Yankees team revenue is probably more than 4 times the Nats revenue.

Anybody that thinks the Lerners are going to go spend crazy are themselves delusional. THey are going to spend within the revenues the team generates, leaving a profit margin and are not going to make additional contributions of their own wealth to the franchise.

You're not including a lot of additional Yankees wealth that is excluded from their total - primarily their TV network. Nats with their piddling little MASN stake get practically nothing from MASN residual profits, while the Yankees owners rake a couple hundred $m above what you've quoted as team revenues, which only include the rights fee.

And the Lerners are, far and away, the wealthiest owners in major league baseball, which trumps all of that.
