yeah, probably, the -10.3 UZR/150 scares me.

Third year in a row with a negative UZR. In the small centerfield of Camden Yards. He'd get pwned in the outfield at Nats park.

I would be very happy.

That's what I thought.  Seriously, that kid is really turning into something special.

Yes because our CF and OF have really been world beaters at the plate.  :smh:  Defence is irrelevant if you don't score runs and strikeout like you like it.

I agree with these things:

In my dream scenario, we trade a middle infielder plus some pitching prospects for Adam Jones.

In a weak pitching market, guys like Edwin Jackson and CJ Wilson are going to be horribly overpaid. The 2013 crop of FA pitchers is much better. Greinke, Marcum, Haren, Hamels, Cain, etc are all FA's.

This offseason, trade for Adam Jones. Rely on Stras/JZ/Lannan/Wang/Det/Livo until 2013 and then do the really fancy starting-pitching shopping. Hamels would be a sweet way to stick it to Philly.

Jose Reyes or bust.

If none of those work out, the 2013 crop of FA pitchers is much better. Greinke, Marcum, Haren, Hamels, Cain, etc are all FA's. Sign one of them if we still have two open slots at the back end of the rotation.   starter.

What about Lannan. I don't think he missed a start this season and he is under team control for another year or two. That would leave one spot that Milone, Peacock, Detwiler ,Wang  ( provided he gives us a home team discount) and Purke , Meyers , Cole , Solis and Ray ( can't recall if they are all starters) to contend. We certainally have one gem in that group.

Id rather pay huge money to someone that deserves it, in the year that we should be contending(still think a lot needs to be figured out in 2012).

Ohhh, this. That's a sexy FA class.

I'd love to steal Hammels from the Phillies

LOL, we're not getting Adam Jones. For one, he's making 3 mil and change right now and he's due arbitration this offseason. So yea, LAC

Two, we don't have enough to get him. The Orioles are stuffed with prospects. Heck, outside of Weiters, Markakis and Jones, they're starting a Triple A club. I don't see any prospects that they would be interested in (except for Bryce Harper, of course).

Pretty much this. I've been touting this for a while. I don't see any free agents worth spending money (except for Pujols) this year. Next year is all about establishing talent and getting Harper up to the bigs. Getting Zimmerman to 200 innings and getting Strasburg to 160ish.

2013 could be a big year for pitchers. At least two big name pitchers will be free agents. Right now I see Cain and Grienke being available. We could even take a shot on a second tier pitcher like Fausto Carmona. If we got one of these, we wouldn't have to rely on Purke, Milone, Peacock to be anything other than spot starters and number 5 inning eaters.

Lannan is already included in my projection for the team. When I say "if there are two spots left at the back end of the rotation" that means our front three is Strasburg, Zimmermann, and Lannan. Not that I think Lannan should be our #3, just saying I count him amongst the rotation locks at this point.

I think we could make a deal for Peter Bourjos.

The Angels are set in the outfield. Trout will start next year. Hunter and Wells are locked up for the next two or three years. Neither will hit well enough to DH, and they have Trumbo for that.

We might be able to get Bourjos for a middle infielder and a pitching prospect. He's hit .276/.328/.444 and plays fantastic defense in center

The Angels have no use for a middle infield prospect. They have two solid guys at the big league level, that are considered long term fixtures. In the minors, they have Alexi Amarista and Jean Segura that are solid prospects as well. Segura is suppose to be really good, but missed a lot of time with a hammy injury this year.

I would think anything involved the Nationals and Angels would start with Storen. Other than Zimmerman, there isn't anything else that is potentially expendable for us that would help the Angels.

lol @ people falling into the FA trap again

"Skip this year, just wait another year."  I've already explained how that's total fallacy.  Many of those players will get locked up to long-term deals, or get traded to a team where they'll want to re-sign.  It's happened so many times before.

Amazing.  It's like people have amnesia or have never followed baseball.

Yeah, that CJ Wilson guy.  We totally couldn't use him.

Anyway, I never said there was.  I'm just saying...don't count the 2013 chickens before they hatch.

It is exceedingly stupid to avoid the coming year's free agent market just because the one two years away looks good.  You should acquire good players as they become available, not as the entire free agent class looks to be to your liking.

Would Jayson Werth?

Werth already has a ring, he came for the money.

If CJ Wilson comes here, it would be solely for the money (at least the first couple of years)  - is that what he wants?

And that's assuming that the Lerner's and Rizzo are willing to get into a bidding war with the Yankees
