The Nats have never had a peak year. That's the point. We've sucked forever.

At least the Cubs have had success in the past decade.

I'm not sure how a team that completely botches their opportunity for a run is > than a team that hasn't started their run yet, that was my point.

Also, we did suck forever. We don't suck right now.

Any success > losing 100 games

Period.

Unless of course you're saying you'd rather have the Nats lose a lot of games rather than make the playoffs and fall apart.

Coming from someone who posts positively about the Rays and Pirates plans?

Ok? I'll just assume you'd rather lose than make the playoffs and lose, then.

He was talking ownership groups, so Nats years only. I'm calling SSS on Nats years.

SSS?

I was actually just busting on Sharp and pointing out that, while the Chubs smoke anii right now, they were competitive just a few short years ago.  And as far as the NL Central goes - remember that CC was with the Brewers that year (you know, when they won the Wild Card).

The Nats could trade their minor leaguers and make a push for the playoffs this year.  That would qualify as 'any success.'  They could have JZ pitch 220 innings and pick up an extra couple of wins.

Fellas, fellas, we're all friends here.  It will be interesting to see what the Cubs do when $50m of payroll comes off the books.

Failing is failing, who cares?  Pretty sure most (knowledgeable) Cubs fans would happily swap rosters with us right now.

SSS?

Small Sample Size.
And no, I'm not a geek - I just had to look it up myself this morning.

You can assume whatever you want dude, nobody cares.  You'd be a much more enjoyable poster if you mellowed out and stopped trying to be "right" about everything all the time.  Internets are not a contest, in spite of what you might've heard.

Do you really not understand my point? I was trying to say it's pointless to compare rebuilding years to failed, botched peak years when judging ownership groups.

Off course I'd rather make the playoffs than lose 100 games. The Cubs have to tear-down and rebuild after a series of botched years, horrible contracts, and pathetic trades. They should have started years ago but held on too long.

Edit: Oops, lots of responses while I was typing. I really like Linty as a poster, we just had a little spat of bickering. <3

I'd much rather be where we are than where the Cubs are, but I'll concede this much - the Cubs are probably far more likely to aggressively spend money to try to fix their deficiencies in the short term than we are.  We've got a promising future at the moment, but all of our hopes for the next few years pretty much ride on 2 or 3 guys.

That said, a couple of early playoff exits a few years ago isn't much to hang your hat on when you're one of the worst teams in baseball.

Yeah, they tried to do what many here have said we shouldn't do - trade prospects to "try" and make the post-season when you still don't have all the pieces to be competitive for years.

Anybody wanna make an avatar bet on any facet of tonight's game?  I'm feeling feisty.

We win on a walk-off HBP.  If I win you have to have this avatar for a week:

This.  Quality poster, but I think sportsfan infected him with rage disease.

Fight it, Linty! :P

Livo gives up more earned runs tonight than Garza.

So...  no avatar at all? ;)

Sure, I'll always bet on Livo.  You'll probably win though, with our offense.

Garza pitched a Complete game only giving up 1 run last time out and got the loss. He will be dealing tonight.

The Cubs' roster is batting .352/.404/.576 off Livo in 125 ABs. Aramis Ramirez owns his soul (12/33 with 3 Doubles and 4 HRs off Livo lifetime).

Avatar bet for a week? Deal? Just earned runs between Garza and Livo

Yep, I'm aware of all of that.  I'll still take the bet for fun.  1 week avatar + tagline.

I'll take Marquis bet too.  If by some chance he wins, I'll use his avatar of choice for a week, then yours.
