I agree with the sentiment here re: Bixler.  I'm not sure we win the game without his steal at third and the subsequent run at the plate.  And what about Pudge?  He's come up with a BIG timely hit a few times this year.

Just wish the big guns could get going.  We leave an awful lot of guys on base.

That McCutheon (sp?) is a real pest.  He scares me every time he comes to the plate.

If there was ONE GUY that I'd love to see the Nats get as a FA McCutcheon would be it.  And I would OVERPAY to get him.

That was the Nellie Fox style bat. It worked for Nellie...not so much for Eddie. Although I remember that Brinkman hit about .265 in Ted Williams' first year managing...I figured it was Ted's hitting advice.

Yeah, Ted had everyone on the team hitting better.  Brinkman's OPS improved .200 points.

I'm pretty sure Ankiel's hand slid across the plate just before the tag was applied, but if you've got evidence to the contrary... ;)

Out!

I hate being right so often.    It's such a burden.     ;)

This is actually the closest I could get.  A couple of frame before, the tag is applied clearly before Ankiel's hand touches the plate.

Davey said they will X-Ray but they think just a "contusion."

Don't you love it when baseball people use big words.

the catcher had a mindplan and stuck to it.

is that a distant 3rd cousin of mindfact?

definitely some level of elbow contusion, didn't look great, he'll have some swelling tonight (that's the key treat it ASAP) and will most likely be out tomorrow.  hopefully aviods the DL.

I thought Ankiel was clearly safe even though the ball arrived before the runner but the catcher was unable to make the tag in time.

Morse was due a day off. Hopefully it's not 15 on the DL.

This seems like a good time for us to have someone in the clubhouse that might have some inside knowledge in the situ.  Daniel-son, now is when you prove your realness.  Are you the real Danny Espinosa?  Or are you an imposter?

As stated in another thread, I've never boo'ed a home team or player.

But for Werth, I'm willing to make an exception.

Mostly because he is such an a--hole.

Definitely an a-hole. I don't know if they showed it on television, but as Werth was walking back to the bench after striking out again, he tipped his helmet to all the fans that were booing.

Going to be a long contract for Werth.

 What do you want him to do? Cry on the bench after the game like Willy Mo Pena?

Good win (and bad loss).  Just got back from the doubleheader.  A surprising number of Pirates fans there.

And I was personally pretty disappointed with the fans booing Werth.  crap, they booed him on a fly ball that could have fallen in for a base hit with a slightly worse RF... that's not classy.

Also, while I didn't think Lannan had a bad outing by any means (and was happy to see Davey wisely took him out on time tonight, despite a low pitch count), I don't think it was a particularly reassuring one either.  You never want to see a guy go 6 or 7 (forget which) with just one strikeout, of the pitcher.

I'd actually prefer someone who is making 126 million to act like he cares about sucking.

The booing is mild compared to what he would have received in Philly.

you don't need to strikeout a ton of guys to have success up here.  he went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs.  the one he is probably still kicking himself about is the 2-out single (after allowing a career AAAA 5th string catcher get his 1st MLB hit to start the inning).  lannan did his job, gave us a chance to win.  even the candid davey johnson who said in lannan's last start that he probably left him in too long, commented tonight he was outstanding.  (i wouldn't go that far, b/c he's had better outings, but he was darn good)

i mean livo has been unhittable his last four starts (and overall has been awesome with the nats in his second tour of duty), lannan has pitched like a #4 this year, gorzelanny has come off the DL strong in his last two starts, marquis has been the pitcher we thought he would be when we signed him and zimmermann is not pitching like a #2 guy he looks like an ace.

if there is one thing we fans have no room to nag about, is the starting pitching this year.  (and no, sharp, i'm not directing this comment @ you, just a general statement)

We'lll being pining for 2005 for awhile. The 2005 hangover was pretty bad though. The wheels just came off that team, granted they overachieved. Hard to believe we have sucked for so long now.

He didn't walk anybody though and, for Lannan, that's staggeringly good.

at least from my perspective it looked like Bixler would have been out at 3rd if not for the missed throw
