The replay clearly showed the trajectory of the ball was altered when it glanced off his arm.

What do you mean? His lower half is open. Is he more closed up top than normal?

He did change his stance though, he's holding the bat higher. It's completely different from his normal stance.

It seemed like his legs were closer together, but still an open stance.
