Nice article on Moore

http://eastern.league.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110725&content_id=22269324&vkey=news_l113&fext=.jsp&sid=l113

Quote
The Washington Nationals drafted Tyler Moore in the 41st round out of high school in 2005, but he did not sign. They drafted him again the next year, in the 33rd round, after a season at Meridian (Miss.) Community College, but again he did not sign, this time as a draft and follow.

Finally in 2008, after his junior year at Mississippi State, he was drafted yet again by the Nats in the 16th round and this time signed with scout Eric Robinson, who had been following Moore since high school.

"He kind of stuck with me," Moore said of Robinson, who is based in Georgia. "He just had faith in me. I am glad that he did."

"I drafted him three times. I had to keep pulling for him," Robinson said. "It worked for us. It is a storybook for me and him."

That faith has been repaid by Moore, Harrisburg's right-handed hitting first baseman, who leads the Eastern League with 23 home runs.

"This whole year has been a learning experience," said Moore, who hit .269 with 31 homers last season at Class A Advanced Potomac. "I don't try to show my power a lot; I just let it happen.

"I try to be more selective on pitches I chose to swing at," he added. "Sometimes I swing at everything."

Robinson flew to New Hampshire earlier this month to watch Moore in the Eastern League All-Star Game and Home Run Derby.

"Tyler is a great makeup guy. He absorbs what is best for him from coaches," Robinson said.

Moore hit .200 with six homers and 28 RBIs in 71 games in his pro debut with Vermont in 2008. He moved up to Class A Hagerstown of the South Atlantic League the next season and batted .297 with nine homers, 30 doubles and 87 RBIs in 421 at-bats.

Last season Moore had a monster year at Potomac as he led the Carolina League in doubles (43), homers (31), RBIs (111), extra-base hits (77) and slugging (.552) en route to Most Valuable Player honors.

This year Moore is second in the Eastern League in RBIs with 68 and third in slugging at .544 while hitting .272 with 26 doubles. But pitch selection has been a problem, as he had just 17 walks and 97 strikeouts in his first 379 at-bats.

Troy Gingrich, Harrisburg's hitting coach, began working with Moore before Spring Training in Viera, Fla. He noted Moore was hitting about .180 early last year with Potomac when he went on a tear and hit .346 with 22 homers in the second half of the season.

"He came up with a routine on his own," Gingrich said of his 2010 campaign. "He shortened down his path to the plate. I wanted him to keep doing the same thing. He keeps his stride short and sees the ball better."

Moore has been the cleanup hitter this season and on occasion has hit in front of Bryce Harper since the teenager was promoted from Hagerstown in early July. Moore said he has not noticed if he sees better pitches when he bats in front of Harper, but he is glad to have the phenom in the lineup.

"I like this kid. He is a good guy to have. He is a great kid," Moore said.

Moore has also benefited from the tutelage of Gingrich.

"Troy has been nothing but good. He is the most unselfish hitting coach I have ever had. He is a friend, too," Moore said.

Moore hit his 22nd homer of the year Thursday in Richmond on a day the temperature was 97 degrees at game time.

"You never get used to it," said Moore of the heat while standing in the Harrisburg clubhouse before Friday's game. "You just have to stay hydrated. It is tough to complain as a fielder when the pitcher and catcher" have to be out there.

So what does he think of leading the league in homers?

"It's a great thing, but I don't think about it. I'll check that stuff and see what other guys did after the season," he said.

If Dan Rosenbaum had that line you'd be like, "only 1 run given up by Rosenbaum today.  why hasn't that mon Rizzo promoted him already?"

Bring him up! Tired of these soft tossers, if they're not perfect they get hammered.

Peacock still has a no-hitter through 6 but walking 4 batters has cost him 100 pitches he also have 7K's, maybe 1 more inning and he's done. Or they could let the peacock fly! :lmao:

JCA's boy Josh Wilkie closes Peacock's victory out with 1.1 scoreless.

Wilkie has a nice scoreless streak going: 14.2 IP 6 H 0 ER 2 BB 13 K (3 Saves).

2.66 Overall ERA.

Looks like to me he might be a serviceable middle guy.  3:1 K:BB, 9 k/9, not flukey LOB% makes the ERA and FIP look right.  Benefits from low HR rate, but it is not ridiculous.  Over 150 innings in AAA with good numbers.  Add him to the 40 man roster this offseason (or September if there is room), then use him as an optionable bullpen depth piece next year, once we have some of the mediocre to poor veterans without options off the roster.  That starts to look like a functional roster.

Eric Arneson has a 1 hitter thru 6 innings. What do the 'experts' say about him?
