Good to see Cole getting some love in Law's top 50. Hopefully that means he cracks the bottom end of BA's top 100.
Harper, Rendon, Peacock and Cole getting top 50 mention.

We then have a few guys like Norris, Meyer, Ray and Solis who could be borderline top 100.

Not quite the Royals or Rays, but were on the way up.

I said it before. Cole is on a Shelby Miller rise. 2IP 3H 1ER 0BB 5K tonight but there's a rain delay and most likely he's done for the day.

Sorry for letting facts get in the way.

Cole was not the second best HS arm in last years draft at the time of the draft. Nobody had him ranked as such. That was the only point of contention.

He was a late first/sandwich talent that we got in the fourth. Fantastic value. Ive been a Cole fan from the moment we drafted him.

i just won't let that skew my view of how big of a steal it was. It wasn't like we got a top ten talent in the fourth.

He could be the best HS arm out of that draft, now that everyone has to prove themselves.

Here's to hoping we pull off an even bigger coup, by getting Matt Purke signed!

Byron Kerr throws us some nuggets about the P-Nats bullpen. Hope this is not a re-run; I didn't see it posted anywhere.

Nationals prospect reliever Patrick Lehman was rolling early on this season and quickly got his promotion to Double-A Harrisburg.

So, as is the case all the time in minor league baseball, when a player advances, an opportunity is made available to allow another top prospect a shot to shine in the organization. With a vacancy in the closer role, the Potomac Nationals have turned to right-hander Hector Nelo, and he has delivered.

In his last 10 games prior to Friday's outing, Nelo went 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA and seven saves, three earned runs allowed, 14 strikeouts and six walks in 12 1/3 innings.

Nelo, acquired from the Texas Rangers, has received a lot of attention with his impressive velocity, throwing mid-to-upper 90's mph.

Overall, Nelo is 1-0 with a 2.59 ERA and 11 saves in 20 games.

Left-hander Josh Smoker has "done a pretty nice job as well", according to Potomac Nationals pitching coach Paul Menhart. Smokers' numbers are stunning, putting up a 0.82 ERA with just one earned run allowed the last 10 games.

Left-hander Joe Testa from Wagner is also impressing the Nationals' minor league coaching staff. "Testa has been a very good surprise with his change of arm angle, coming way down under," Menhart said. Testa has done even better, with a 1.21 ERA this season and has not surrendered a single run in his last 10 outings (in 10 innings).

"Testa is a guy that can throw three or four days in a row if he really needed to," Menhart said. "He has a very durable arm. He needs touches so he can get used to this new arm slot. He has been very good."

Although he has struggled to throw strikes consistently, right-hander Rob Wort is putting up the numbers with great velocity and a 1.50 ERA the last 10 games.

Wort "is throwing low 90's mph, the ball is deceptive coming out," Menhart said. "The score doesn't matter with him. He treats every pitch like it is his last one. That is what I like about Rob Wort."

Overall, Menhart said the relievers are keeping the P-Nats in games and are not allowing opponents to add to their run totals late in games.

"I am pretty pleased with the whole bullpen situation the way it stands right now," Menhart said.

I was reading the Post - online version of the print version.  D5.  Same page as the Wedding Dress Guy (who maybe should get in contact with Dennis Rodman, but that's another thread).

Anyhow, it talks about Kinston moving and how Silber will reveal plans about a new stadium later this summer:

From The Farm

Kinston looks for

a new team in town

A minor league shuffle is still expected to leave Kinston, N.C., without its high-Class A Carolina League affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. That doesn’t mean the city of fewer than 25,000 is giving up on professional baseball.

Last offseason, Kinston’s team was sold to Steve Bryant, the owner of the now-Class AA Carolina Mudcats, who play outside Raleigh, N.C., in Zebulon. So the Mudcats will become a Carolina League franchise. The Class AA Southern League Mudcats have been sold and will move to Pensacola, Fla., to become the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Where does that leave Kinston?

“The reality is that the moving parts are going to determine when opportunities are present,” Minor League Baseball President Pat O’Conner told the Kinston Free Press and other media.

Even within the Carolina League, Frederick and Potomac aren’t in the most settled of situations. With the independent Atlantic League interested in putting a team in Frederick, the Keys have reportedly offered to more than triple their annual lease payment to the city. Meanwhile, Art Silber, owner of the Potomac Nationals, told Baseball America he will unveil a plan for a new ballpark in Prince William County later this summer.

Other leagues below high-Class A also may offer Kinston hope, and if nothing materializes, a college summer league team likely would move into 62-year-old Grainger Stadium.

Tyler Moore with his 20th HR and 25th double of the season tonight for Harrisburg. If only he walked more he'd be a serious prospect.

Chris Marrero 3/4 with 2 Doubles, 2 RBIs, and a run for Syracuse today. Now batting .302, the guy can hit that is no doubt.

Lombo went 3/5 with a HR, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs. Now batting .357. He doesn't turn 23 till September wow.

I'm loving Lombo... Move out of the way Desmond. September is going to be very interesting. Lombo should get a lot of playing time, depending on how the rest of the year goes. If he keeps this up, and there doesn't seem to be anything indicating that he wont, than it could be pretty awesome with Lombo and Espinosa in the middle.

Kevin Keyes has been doing work in Hagerstown.

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=RF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=518881

Hitting only .247 but slugging over .500 with an OPS of almost .850.  He's listed as an OF at 6'3 and 225.

They might as well call up Marrero.

Nix has been pretty weak the past month and a half. Putting Morse back in left with Marrero at first really couldn't be any worse. If it is, then you can always send him back down. At least there's a chance for an offensive upgrade with the move.

Past month and a half? What are you looking at? I'd say he's been cooling down for the past half month. He's still hitting the ball, just hasn't hit a homerun since June 28th.

Nix is hitting .238, with a .289obp in June and July.

That may be but I want to say its the month of July bringing down his AVG and OBP. I mean he started June off until the 15th a .260-.270 avg, not great but still hitting the ball at least once a game. Then towards the end of June he had a lot of o fers. I guess you (meaning me) can't really be picky like that though since he is having a down past month.

I say it's more about the reality of how good he is. He's not an every day player.

Anyway, how about Michael Taylor at Hagerstown. Another bomb tonight ... Thats 5 in 19 games since the all star break. He hit 5 in 65 games before the break. His numbers have gotten better every month of the season.

Seems like a quality athlete, being that he was drafted as a SS, then shifted to the OF. Seems like an intriguing, developing power/speed guy.

very true. I didn't realize how low those two numbers were for the two months. I just feel like him getting a hit once a game is pretty useful but only going 1/4 or 0/4 does suck.

That said, I would love Marrero up here asap and replace Stairs. Then we could maybe even play Morse in LF and 1B switching off with Marerro playing 2-3 games a week. For the record, I don't know if that would be a good strategy or not lol.

http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/7/18/2281408/taking-a-look-at-midseason-prospect-rankings

An article that put in some work, and came up with a consensus mid season prospect ranking.

Harper 1, Peacock 43, Cole 47, and Norris at 57. The numbers are a bit off, as players tied with 'points' but seems like he will still crack top 100 lists. Add Rendon to the list and it gives us 5 guy, with two in the top ten.
