There was one point last night where FP was so cheery it drove me up a wall.

I think it was after the Hairston screw up... and he said something like "the Nats are playing flawless baseball". Is he even watching the game?

Does anyone think FP is prodded or fed the "company line" pre broadcast or is it his point of view?

Compared to Dibble, I think he's too subdued to make that call yet.  One thing you can say about a bombastic personality like Dibble is that you're pretty sure his words are his own.

that said, reporters are all over the boards, they come here hunting for story lines

Totally agree.

Boswell cribbed an idea from me off the MLB board back in 2006, probably his first use of VORP in a column.

I never was a fan of Dibble. His style was not what I enjoy about baseball. Too bombastic for me.

I grew up listening to Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn. They shaped what I like in announcers, be it radio or TV. I don't need the grunting, clap-cheering & yelling. Just describe what is happening in the game and fill in with pertinent stories/analysis.

Dibble never really did that. He made me mute the TV

Vin Scully is able to call out players without saying a word.

I'm torn here.  Originally I thought FP was a bit dry, well compared to Dibs.  Then as I watched/listened to more games I realized how decent he is at analyzing the game and the situation.

The "company line" being defense over offense?  Then yes.  From day one they pounded away on that point, defending the reasons to let Dunn get away.

FP should have pointed out that Hairston had his head up his ass. The play was in front of him the whole time.

Let me try to be more specific.   Maybe it's not the "company line" per se.   Does anyone think that the crews get "talking points" from the club?    Do Dave and Charlie same the same things as FP and Carp as it relates to off field and personnel issues?    Is it what Rizzo and Riggs say as well?    Without Dib's "bombasity", has anyone heard any of these guys question a move (personnel, starting line up, double switch, etc.) or am I too deep into the 6 pack to pick it up?

If you could match it up to TV... it'd be perfect.

I'll start this evening.   Plus, I usually keep my WNFF thread open.   We may "over react" at times but usually it's pretty good (and funny).

Dave and Charlie are awesome.  I actually like Bobby C too, he just needs someone with a bit more personality than FP.  Ideally, I'd like someone like the Sarge.  Cadillac time!

Got at Bat? Got a DVR? At Bat audio is a skosh behind the TV. Pause the TV for a skosh and you're golden. Life is fabulous at my house :)

How does a skosh compare to a minute? What's the conversion factor?

Sarge is FANTASTIC. The Phillies in no way deserve him.

Sometimes I think some people on this board are not happy unless they're unhappy.

It's four games into the season. If you aren't cheery at this point, when will you be? If they play like crap this season as they did all last year, he will call them out as appropriate, I suspect.

I love FP so far. He is optimistic at this point like all sane baseball fans are. And it makes me realize how much I effin hated Dibble.

So you're saying some people here aren't happy unless they have something to nag about?

I also want to put in a plug for people who don't nag about anything other than other people nagging about something.

At least FP is better than Ray Knight. Remember during Stammen's start in Houston when Knight started drawing all sorts of random lines on home plate?

Sometimes I think some people on this board are not happy unless they're unhappy.

Maybe, maybe some of us are tired of the "wait two years/this team is going to develop once X, Y and Z happen/we know it's a disaster but let's turn the negatives into a positive/we got great draft picks" nonsense.
