Anyone going to bother to tell Rizzo that production actually matters?

You can't keep grabbing all these athletics guys and expecting it to work.

Who is he? Jim Bowden?

I think he wants guys who are athletic and can actually play baseball, too.  However athletic Milledge was, it was ridiculous watching him in the outfield and the figure eight routes he would take to flyballs.

Jim Bowden excelled at getting guys that were terrible at baseball.  Also guys that had diabetes, had taken roids, or had various other physical or character defects.

Yep.  Both.  Plus, he sucks.  So he's the perfect Nat.

Not sure about that since that would mean four righties in a row.  If we sign LaRoche instead of Lee, then I agree with you for sure.

Also, why would it be the worst lineup in the NL East?  I think it's better than the Mets or Braves.
It's not better than the Mets or Braves lineup. Don't forget that the Mets had a lot of injuries last year. This year they should have Reyes, Beltran, and Bay healthy. The Braves scored almost 100 more runs than the Nats last year and their lineup should be better this year with improvements to Freeman and not playing Melky, Ankiel, or Mclouth in CF

Like Rob Dibble said this morning... the Nats media, ownership and front office really underestimates the intelligence of the Nats fan base.

When did he say that and in what context did he say that.

I wonder if this means that Nyjer Morgan could get Patterson'd in spring training with Werth, Bernadina or Ankiel taking over center.

yup.  we have to make more moves, or 2008-09 seasons will be nothing compared to this upcoming season.

They had the PBP guy from the Royals on this morning... talking about yet another rebuilding project.

After they finished talking, Dibble brought up the Nats, and how they were trying to sell 'the future is near'... and that today's fan is smarter than the higher ups think... and we really see 'future is near' as a tactic to buy more time, without a real plan in place.

Don't worry, we'll probably put him in left

surprisingly i'm not the one nagging about this move 8)

again hurry up and sign Lee, add one or two quality starting pitchers and let's get this season going and hope for the best.

Not a star. Not expensive. Rabble rabble. Burn the Lerners.

[/Lintyfresh]

Only Nationals fans would throw a temper tantrum when we sign a guy... For depth. I'd rather have him than some no name AAAA player. He's shown flashes of being proudly referred to as "below average", which would be an improvement on this team as far as depth. He's no Willy Taveras.

What?!?

Why am I the face of everything wrong with Nats fans?

I didn't trash Ankiel any more than anyone else. I simply said he took steroids and hasn't produced in quite a while.

Find someone else to blame; I'm just posting facts.

I simply said he took steroids and hasn't produced in quite a while.

Actually, he juiced up on HGH as I recall.

These bench moves don't bother me in and of themselves. The trend here is pretty clear. Rizzo said they wanted bench guys who would accept their roles. So that is what they have been signing, which is fine by me. The only thing that concerns me is that the nature of the moves so far. I really wanted this team to be more aggressive early trying to actually improve and spend some money. So far, they have cut payroll and rearranged the talent, but not made significant enough moves to improve much. So they are still in position to strike during the remainder of the offseason. I just fear that it will be more of the same and they don't make the moves needed to address their starting pitching need. Time will tell.
