Did you see the all-time list of pitchers they showed during the game last night who skipped the minors and jumped right to the majors?
Only a couple of mediocre careers and the rest were flops. None came close to the Hall.
They discussed this and many insiders are divided with some saying that they are rushing him and it may be a good idea to keep him down a little longer so he can better prepare himself for the majors, i.e., work on another pitch.
Yes, this is Strasburg and he is a special talent but history states he needs some minor league seasoning.
I want him up here too but for the betterment of Strasburg and the Nationals it's not going to hurt to see him at least finish the season in Syracuse.
You know who needs "seasoning" in the minors? The Craig Stammens, John Lannans and Luis Atilanos of the world. Tell me with a straight face that those options are better than Strasburg at this point.
I'm well aware that I am outspoken on this point, but nothing that this kid has (hasn't) done that convinces me otherwise. Show me all the lists of past players you want, but there is a major flaw in that logic: none of those players on any list is named Stephen Strasburg.
Development, "everydayness", arb clocks-- it is all a bunch of bull. The kid is ready, has been since the day he signed. Nothing can stop what has been done and I'm sure they have marked on some calendar in the FO the day he is going to pitch (wish I was a fly on the wall in that office) and they aren't going to stray from their "perfect plan" for him. But a few years down the road, when Stras is collecting the first of his many Cy Youngs to come we are all going to look back on this and say, "WTF were we thinking? He is God, we are mere mortals. FORGIVE US FOR OUR UNBELIEF!"
I'm going to heaven with Johnny Cash.
