Ack. Thanks. Too sleepy when reading it I guess (or too dumb).
Nah, it's all good.  Just didn't want you to be under a false impression if they decide to give Marquis a couple more starts to get his stuff worked out.

What about Bally? What about JD Martin? Can someone be brought up for a while to spot start??

Jason Marquis: Foothunter. :spaz:

I'm not sure why Batista is getting a warm and shiny for giving up three earned runs and allowing three inherited runners to score in his first inning of work. :spaz:

The grand slam was bad.  no question, but there aren't many relievers that come in with the bases loaded and no outs and get out of it unscathed.  After the first he actually pitched pretty well holding the Brewers at 10 and gave the Nats a chance to get back into the game, which they did.  He held things down so Riggs didn't have to blow through the bullpen.  I dont' think anyone's calling him the saviour of the team, but he did well yesterday, all things considered.

He better figure it out quickly.  I was a fan of the signing, but my opinion could quickly change if he continues to have outings like he's having.  That was an embarrassment yesterday.

Martin had a decent start at Syracuse, as did Atliano, so i'm guessing they are the top options right now.

Bally and Martis have 9.00 ERAs at Syracuse (2 starts each).

While Marquis starts haven't been encouraging, I don't see Martin/Atliano being much better.  It'd be nice if Wang/Detwiler were ready (and Strasburg too hehe)

It was awful, actually.  Craig Counsell??? That was probably the most embarrassing home run allowed by a Nationals pitcher since Mike Stinkton got taken deep by that midget Eckstein back in 2006.

JD pitches today, so he would have to go on short rest to take Marquis's next start, which is scheduled for Friday.  JD looks like Stammen insurance in case he stinks today.  Of course, Altilano is pitching well and on the 40 man too, so no one needs to be waived off the 40 man roster.

Meh, it wasn't THAT bad.  Crazy stuff happens in baseball.  Counsell's hit HR's before, he'll hit them again.

Haven't we allowed a couple pitcher home runs?

Strasburg can't come up yet, he still needs to learn how to pitch. :-)

Remember, in the beginning of the year, all the interviews and stories about how Marquis was "teaching" the younger pitchers?

Yikes.

Even with that horrible first inning we still only lost by four runs!

Shoulda been four in a row.

Right, but two runs is a very reasonable expectation. If he had allowed, say two inherited runs, and none of his own, we'd have won.

Not making excuses for Marquis, but he doesn't get full blame for the loss.

Edit***I remembered it wrong.

Batista gave up an infield single and a sac fly before the grand slam.  Again, the grand slam was bad.  But it wasn't the reason we lost the game, if he only gives up a two run double to Counsell, it's 8 runs plus the one later in the game still leaves us a bit short.

Three inherited runs and three of his own. In one inning.  SHAMEFUL. If you feel compelled to assign FULL blame, it's him. If you want to allocate blame FAIRLY I'd assign it about equally to both.

You can't do that. In 5 IP, Batista allowed 3 ER and 3 inherited runners from an awful situation. I bet you most people and managers would take that in that situation.

So, let's say he ONLY gives up a two run double.  That's only 8 runs and they gave up another late in the game.  We only scored 7.
If he gave up a two run double, then got the side out with no further scoring, it would have been 6 runs.
