Burnett has been solid his last two times out.

Sadly, he seems to have found his calling as a LOOGY. English is probably the left hander I trust the most to actually get a right hander out.

I now have a shiny autographed Jesse English ball, so I'm totally ok with that.

Marquis has to be hurt.
Is that a directive to someone or an observation about Marquis's physical status?

All joking aside, Adam Kilgore suggests that they may skip Marquis in the rotation and insert Batista for a time.  Marquis will go to the bullpen.  Either way, I'm in tough shape for my 4/23 game.

 :lmao:

Send him to the bullpen. Bring him in to work out whatever issues he has the next time we're down by ten runs in the first.

I wonder if he would accept being sent down to work out his issues

Patterson his ass!

(Always wanted to say that even though I want to give Marquis some more time. He has to come around eventually.)

I prefer to call it a Hudson County Suggestion.

I think the same was said for Daniel Cabrera.

Yeah, but Cabrera always sucked.

Yeah, but Cabrera always sucked.

Marquis has mostly sucked and always sucked here. Throw on a two year contract, and you have a worse sign than D-Cab

One more start is all I'd give him, before moving in to the pen until he works it out. He didn't have terrible stuff in his 2nd game, but the umpire didn't help him at all. Yesterday was just awful. When you hit multiple guys in the same inning, you know you just don't have it. I think he'll turn it around because he is smart and knows what he's capable of, but this has just been brutal to watch so far

Carlos Zambrano had an awful opening day and has rebounded since then. Marquis didn't forget how to pitch, he just can't locate them where he wants to.

It was painful to watch him yesterday, you could tell he just didn't have ANYTHING going

The only rough full season he had was in 2006. He has looked very sharp the last 3 seasons.

Well I guess the Nats team are the guinea pigs until they figure out what is wrong with Marquis. Is it a slump, or is it mental (all the pressure of being the Veteran starter#1, per Ray Knight)?
I don't know if I like the idea of suffering through a number of games until the Nats management figures out what is wrong with Marquis. I think it is mental - how can you lose command on the playing field big time, be relieved, and then go back and privately be throwing 15 minutes later and be throwing strikes and have command of your pitches - as reported. It is Mental, mental, mental - and good luck with that one - trying to overcome that mental anxiety/stress overnight.
Some pitchers have had their career end over that type of obstacle.

Some of it is luck, his babip is .438 and his career average is .290s, but his bb/9 are almost double his career average. Its like he just can't pitch anymore- he's getting his hard, and when he's not, he's walking everyone else

It almost looked like his pitches were moving more than he expected them too. Wonder if he would accept a stint at AAA to get his mechanics right?

Marquis getting skipped in the rotation. Top notch attitude by Batista- say he'd be thrilled if Marquis regained his spot. Team player.

That's not actually what the article says.

Quote
...Nationals Manager Jim Riggleman will consider moving back Jason Marquis in the Nationals rotation. If that happens, the easiest corresponding move would be letting Batista start in Marquis's spot five days from now.

"That's what I'm here for," Batista said. "That's my job. I've been one of the best at doing that, starting on short notice or on no notice. Hopefully, we can get Marquis back on track and pitching the way we know he can pitch, and everything will be history."

Well I'm not exactly comfortable with that position either. Remember the thread of who we would vote off the island, and I seem to remember the number #1 selection of this group was Bastita.-and  it wasn't that long ago.
I know this sounds crazy, but it you are going to the bullpen for a short period, for a starter, like for one or two rotations, I would rather see Ty-Clip step in. It's a given that Clippard could go at least 3 to 4 innings.

Clippard is great where he is. I don't want our best reliever to be pressed into service as a starter. JMO.
