I was at the Yankees - Tigers game today, 2/28/10, in Lakeland FL.  Justin Maxwell started in LF and lasted 5 innings.  He was 0-3 with two K's and left 5 men on base.  Not a good showing in his first game with the Yankees.

Frank Robinson palling it up with the O's.

http://www.masnsports.com/school_of_roch/2011/02/more-on-frank-robinsons-speech.html

I don't see anything wrong with his doing that. He did play for them for six years, and that's only one year less than Frank Howard played for the Sens, and I'm pretty sure no one says anything when he pals around with the Nats. Fair is fair.

Frank can do whatever he wants, especially when the club is treating him so well. When Frank speaks, you listen.

I don't see anything wrong with Frank's actions either. Perhaps if we treated him with a little more respect he'd be doing something similar for us.

Rex Gary, Johnson's agent, recently explained to MLBTR that his client is "heading in the right direction" after appearing in just 24 games last year. Though Johnson probably won't be ready for the beginning of the season and can't swing a bat all-out at this point, he should be ready soon after the season starts.

I don't think you need to have insurance if you have a certain amount of money.

According to the article, "Kearns also is charged with failure to maintain required insurance.", but it is possible that he needs to provide proof of his net worth.

I mean I have no idea how much money you need, but I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that if you can prove you can pay, you don't need to have it.  It'd probably still make sense to have it anyway.

So here's the thing. Once upon a time, I liked Scott Olsen. I was thrilled when we got him from the Fish, he seemed like a young pitcher with a ton of potential, a ton of upside, and a personality that made him a fierce competitor while seeming like he might be a cool guy. Man, either I was wrong or he's just let the money go to his head and become a total jerk. From MLBTRs:

Quote
It came as news to Scott Olsen that Pirates GM Neal Huntington listed him as as a bullpen candidate if he doesn't make the rotation, reports Colin Dunlap of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  “They didn’t bring me in here to be a bullpen guy,” Olsen said. “They want to do that, we are going to have to have a conversation about it, and we haven’t had one about it.”  Olsen's contract with Pittsburgh includes $3MM in incentives based on the number of starts that Olsen makes, so obviously Olsen has a stated interest in staying out of the bullpen.

What a jackass. So if you don't make the rotation, what do you want then? You're too good to pitch in the bullpen if you don't make the rotation? You're that much better, worth that much more, than every other guy pitching out of the bullpen? How about being happy being in the Majors, because if you don't make the rotation due to lack of skill/five better pitchers, I've got a solution that matches your criteria: go back to AAA and ride on a bus, pay for your own meals, etc.

When he made these comments, did he really think there was any way he didn't come off as an egotistical, arrogant jackass? Something seems like it snapped in him last season with us. When he was injured, then went out of the bullpen, I guess he decided he really, really, really doesn't like it. But I don't know how he thinks making these comments helps him, or what incentive at all it gives them to put him in the rotation. I'd throw him in the bullpen now out or spite. Or better yet, throw him in the AAA team's bullpen. Get over yourself, Scott.

I saw that too about Scott.  Go have a smoke and calm down, Wolf.  You should be good enough to make the worst rotation in baseball on merit.  If you can't, it's time to become the new Marlboro Man.

His salary is $450,000 for 2011 with $100,000 guaranteed for 2012, but he has $3 million in bonuses available based on number of starts, damn right he's pissed.

Baseball teams pay these guys a lot of money and so the manager should have the discretion to put the player at any position that best helps the club, but the players only have one career, so I can understand them getting upset about being moved around to positions where they are not comfortable.

Not to mention, this is probably the last time Olsen sees a contract that even has the potential to pay in the millions. If I had a job with performance goals that paid far more than my salary, but my boss put me in a position where I didn't even have a chance to attempt let alone reach the goals I'd be furious too
