Patterson is an upgrade.

At least Patterson is left handed and has shown power in the past.

i never said i wanted taveras or that it's a smart decision to have him on our roster.  it's troubling.  i wish harris/maxwell/morse would win that everyday job and so we can ship out taveras ... but none of them have.

if only we had mcdonald to play there everyday 8) kidding

I wish Bernie would have been given a fair chance like everyone else. Maxwell is not good enough. Too bad we had to face all these damn lefties or they would have kept Roger up.

hammonds is a member of the Nats' FO 8)

The problem is that Bernie is a lefty and we already have a perfectly adequate left-handed platoon member with Willie Harris.  None of these guys are good enough to face both righties and lefties.  Not even Bernie.

Yet his picture still sports a curly W.  :-[
Tyler Walker's still sports the Giants hat, which was two stops ago for him.

Go take a look at previous years' game threads sometime.  A lot of the pitcher pics are linked directly from MLB.com, so they have all kinds of teams' gear on now

Alfonso Soriano continues to garner media attention here in Chicago -- this is from today's Tribune:

"Cubs TV analyst Bob Brenly ripped into Alfonso Soriano during an interview Tuesday on WSCR-AM 670, saying the left fielder displayed a "selfish attitude" and suggesting Soriano should've been yanked from Monday night's game after admiring a long fly ball instead of running hard out of the box.

It all began while discussing Ted Lilly's attempted steal during a rehab start in Peoria. Brenly then interjected: "Wouldn't it be refreshing if we could get our left-fielder to run as hard as Ted Lilly does?"  "

Both went to high schools with a good baseball program, both had offers to play college football (MacDonald had an offer from Texas) and both were athletes not baseball players. MacDonald is the cautionary tale of what can go wrong. Hopefully the Nats develop Hood better than the Oriole did MacDonald.

yeah.  what's funny is mcdonald struggled in the lower levels of the minors ... but they kept moving him up.  he had a cup of coffee for the o's - i thought they should've given him a much longer leash than they did - then pretty much gave up on him (he got hurt here and there and he wasn't producing).  Then he left the system and just absolutely raked in the minors (for the reds, twins, nats organizations).  Good to see him land on for the Sox for the time being and I wish him the best of luck.

Very interesting parallels you alluded to.  And yeah I hope Hood is developed better.  Which means fighting temptation to move him up.
