Matt Thornton and Tyler Flowers.

EDIT:  If that doesn't work then a package of Ramon Castro and Dan Hudson would do just fine as well.

I'd do the second deal in a heart beat.  Seriously?

Yeah, we need the inside scoop from our resident Marlins analyst.

He hasn't been around in a while.

The Astros' shortstop, Tommy Manzella, broke his finger and is out for six weeks. This leaves the Astros basically without an infield (new SS is Oswaldo Navarro, the 2B is Jeff Keppinger). So ... send them Guzman as part of the Oswalt package.

Fausto Carmona, who had a three-hit, complete game against us a couple of weeks ago, is SHOCKINGLY (NOT!) being assaulted in Philadelphia, 5-hits, 4-ER, so far, after 2.

The same Carmona who came in to today's game with a 6-5, 3.31 ERA, 1.22 WHIP?

Yeah, he totally sucks.

Too bad this version of Fausto didn't make the trip to Philadelphia, this series.

And Carmona is done for the day, emphasis on DONE.

4 innings, 9 hits, 5 earned runs.

No quality start for you, Fausto!

This is why Espinosa would be a huge part of a deal with them.

Why would the Astros want an SS on a 1 yr deal who kinda sucks when they're not even contention? That's a bit stupid even for Drayton McLane.

From a Sox fan perspective, I would jump for joy.  From a Nats fan perspective, I would wonder if Bowden snuck back into the building.

A power hitting backup catcher and a right-handed starter who is 23 and in his 2nd full year is cruising at AAA with a 1.24 WHIP and 92 Ks in 76.1 IP is something that would make you jump for joy for a half year rental?  Okay, give me that deal.

The Astros are in contention.  That is a fact in Drayton's mind.

Oh I hope we don't trade Espinosa, not with the season he's having now at AA.

NL East Review for the day:

  • The Braves lost.
  • The Mets lost.
  • The Marlins are being pounded in Baltimore   Also, the wOes can get playing well out of their systems before this weekend.
  • The Phillies win.  Boo Fausto Carmona!  Where was THIS Carmona when we played the Indians?   >:(
  • The Nationals, mercifully, had an excuse for scoring no runs today.   :|

No one, not even Jim Hendry, would do that deal for a half year rental.  I just assumed that was understood.

They would have no guarantee of re-signing Dunn until he gets there.  I'm not sure of their salary issues, but I'd be willing to tell Dunn we'll come after him again once the season is over and hope he really enjoyed it here.  If not, we fix the backup catcher spot, add a potential #2 SP who is already at AAA, and open up more room to go after someone like Crawford or Werth and add a short term 1B replacement like Cantu, Glaus, Huff or even steal Konerko as he's a FA at the end of the year.

If the White Sox would do that for Dunn, just to get a lefty power bat, knowing they've got both him and Konerko slated for FA at the end of the year, I'd send him for either of those two player deals.

Unless the Nats fall into the bottom 15, there's no way the team trades Dunn and then tries to re-sign him.

We're not going to give up a first round pick to bring him back.

If Kenny Williams got no commitment from Dunn beyond this year, then he would definitely not give up Hudson to get him.  This is all academic anyway, since Dunn doesn't want to play DH, and there is little chance that the Sox would sign him to play 1B when re-signing Konerko is an option.
