Still ?

I don't think it would be different if the Nats won 7 - 1.  This is a Redskins town.

Well it's just that losing is really tough. Just remember that when the Wizards were winning people paid attention to them.

Technology would ONLY call balls and strikes.

Would technology be able to adjust for differing size strike zones of various players, ie Dunn vs. Wee Willie Harris?

By making every pitch that doesn't fit certain parameters a ball.  Pitchers would only be able to use movement to fool hitters so much.

that would be what a strike zone is

Knorr is right, all the games would 10-8 scores if the strike zone was electronically controlled.

Why wouldn't it, it would just be a simple math equation to figure that out based on the player's dimensions?

doesn't that just mean that umps aren't actually following the rule book

Bull.crap.

If you give hitters a 100% consistent expectation of where the ball has to be in every game, you will have more offense.  Point blank.

And considering one of the complaints about baseball right now is all of the down-time in the game, I'm not sure dragging the games out more with added offense is the answer.

why even bother, if a sensor can get it right at least as often as the ump without any bias (percieved or real), why lets the umps do squat with balls and strikes?

Exactly! Imagine if this was the NBA and each game had a different sized rim, that changed sizes after every quarter!!?? Really? REALLY?? That's preposterous, right? Why should a strike zone be different between pitcher to pitcher, batter to batter, inning to inning, it's absurd! There's nothing subjective about the accuracy of a pitch. Either it's a strike or not. Get it right!

so actually following the rules instead of allow umps to make up their own zones would be crap?

Following what rules?  I don't think there's a 100% guarantee in precision.

I don't see it that way at all. A breaking ball still breaks, a pitch that paints the outside black still paints the outside black, a 98 mph fast ball is still a 98 mph fast ball. The pitches don't change at all, it's the strike zone that is the same for every batter, every time. That's 100% fair in every way, to everyone involved, including the pitchers because they don't have to guess what the ump might call

I would be waiting for a situation where the ball bounced up into the catcher's glove and it was called a strike. That would be funny as hell.
