OK, I'm dumb as a rock. please look at my avatar and signature line, but humor me and tell me what is wrong after you look at what Willie's OBP and SLG for the past 3 years (2007, 2008, 2009[/color]) and this year v. RHP and look at the same for J-Max this year.  The best I've heard so far is that J-Max cannot keep drawing walks once people figure out they can get him out in the strike zone and that he is willing to take a walk.  I can buy that J-Max isn't for real yet. But to make it real simple for those who don't even like OBP - he's 0-11 against righties, which is why his average stinks. Against lefites, he's hit .267, geting on half the time, and chipping in some power.

SO PLAY WILLIE AGAINST RIGHTIES, AND PLAY J-MAX AGAINST LEFTIES, and our right field problem disappears.  What is so difficult about this?

Maxwell doesn't get enough at bats to keep his swing together.

If we're still in the race after the break, I think he'll make a move to address at least the RF spot.

Probably for an expiring contract. Maybe Jose Guillen or Randy Winn.

I presume there will be a "bidding war" for Dejesus, so who else would we consider? Do you really think we would bring back Church for a second go around, hasn't he had problems staying healthy the last couple of years?

:spaz: No thanks to either one, Jose can mash but is not a Rizzo character guy and due to his leg problems is a below average defensive RF. Winn is old as dirt and can't even hit his weight. I'd much rather stick with our current options.

CJames0569, I replied to you in the GD thread that I don't want those guys, but I think those are the types of players we'll target. The thread was locked before I hit the post button.

I wonder if Hank Blalock can play in the outfield. Dude is whooping ass this year in the minors. .375/.435/.552, 4 HR, 23 RBI through 23 games.

200 - 250 plate appearances.  You can play him some days for Morgan, too.  I'd say play him against a few righties, bleeding it in over time.  The other idea would be Morse or Mench, but you'd lose a lot of D.

Below are 3 players that have been speculated as possible trade deadline additions for RF. I'm not going to include names, or teams just batting stats (defense to later be speculated upon). Pick which one you'd rather have, or say none if you'd rather go with our current platoon.

Morse should get the next shot. Yes you lose some D but then you pick up some when you plug him in as Dunn's caddy and keep Kennedy at second.

Depends on the defense for me. Offensively, I'd rank them #1, #3, #2.  Was #2 hurt, or is he a spot player?  I'd take #3 over #1 if there is a clear defense difference (say about 10 -15 runs on UZR).  I'd take #2 if his defense is clearly better than #1 and probably better than #3, his health is OK and he is a righty batter.

You are right.  I'd love to find a way to get Mench up here as an extra bat, but I can't see taking A-Gon off the roster, and we need one fly / glove (Bernie / JMax /Willy T) as the 5th OF.

My optimum roster right now would have a platoon of Harris and Morse in right and perhaps Bernie as the 5th OF.  Only if you want Bernie and JMax to play every day in AAA do you keep Taveras around.

All those numbers in the majors?

I could make a case for any of those 3, but if #1 is the same quality defender as the other two, and you could explain to me the cause of the playing time issue with #2 (injury?  platoon?), I'd say #1 looks like the pick. It's strictly on those stats, and I'd want more info on D, health, and splits (I'll assume #1 and #3 are full timers).

All of those numbers are from the majors.

1) Not sure about his D in RF, he has played all three OF positions but it doesn't look like he has played much RF (if any) since 08. Mostly LF, a little 1B and some DH (yes he plays in the AL)

2) He did miss some time to injury and has gotten some inconsistent playing time. He is an above average defender.

3) He is also an above average defender, for the sake of argument he is on par with #2.

Anyone see Crawford's catch last night? Amazing.

I'm still not sure if I want us to go after him or Werth.

Ryan Doumit played 38 games in RF in 2007 and 1 game in RF last year. Could he either still play the position or hit enough for us not to worry. Of course what do you think the Pirates would want for him? I am not sure of his contract status but he has been in the majors for five years so if he isn't signed the Pirates will need to unload him since they don't pay people.

Think San Diego would trade someone like Scott Hairston?

Also, I feel like Harris has hardly gotten a shot to play... and when he does, he seems to produce.
