Olson is horrid. Same Olsen as last year. No difference. High 80s fastball that is so hittable.

He is cooked.

8 hits and 3 runs given up in 4 innings for Olsen. Sucks.

I'd like to thank Dunn for playing a good 1B today too. The announcers were talking like he had never played 1B in his life before tonight's game. What a joke. He should be better than that by now.

I love how ASSTROLL still continues to actively root against the Nationals.

Olsen's updated ST numbers:

9.1 IP 23 H 10 ER 3 HR 1 BB 2 K (9.64 ERA, 2.57 WHIP, 1.93 K/9)

Does he get released tonight or will they wait until tomorrow?  :bag:

Release him and the fat guy and I won't complain about the Nats giving Guzman a starting job because of money.

Olsen pitched fine, but not great. Might be working on the strike zone or getting more contact.

ASSCLOWN should be banned for 24hrs.

Technically, it should be for life.

12 hits and 13 outs is not "fine" pitching. Olsen is unready and, as somebody (I forget who) suggested, would be well-off spending a few weeks in extended spring training, working on arm strength, before rehabbing in the minor leagues.

A reasonable take. Cutting him from the team, hyperexaggeration, etc. is not.

I knew someone would post a middle-of-the-road option for me to agree with eventually

No amount of rehabbing and working on arm strength is going to turn Scott Olsen into a Major League pitcher. He's done. Stick a fork in him.  :dagger:

Nationals Opening day roster:
Lannan
Marquis
Mock
Livan
Olsen

Batista and Walker in the bullpen. Guzman as Starting SS and Willy Taveras as a platoon partner for Willie Harris in RF. Hello 3rd straight 100+ loss season. The team will join prestigious company. Maybe we can start prepping now for the 2011 draft.

Uh, wanting to cut him because he has chronic dead-arm is not unreasonable, shine boy.

THIS is unreasonable:

Just stupid, unfounded hyperbole.

That may prove to be true, but don't you think it's a bit early to make that call?

Sounds like he hit a wall with his stuff.  Despite 6 hits through 3, as I posted 3 of those were defensive blunders that were no fault of Olsen's, so he was adequate through 3 innings.  I agree with the thought that he needs a rehab assignment to build some strength and see if he can get it back.  He's clearly not ready.

We should leave it to our team's coaching and medical staff, but you have to wonder if they're just banging their head against a wall with this guy.  Look at his history:

-Pitches fairly well in 2006.  One of the better rookies in the NL.
-Has dead-arm the next year and pitches terrible
-Pitches reasonably well in 2008.  Not quite a return to form as his velocity is down and his numbers aren't as good as '06.
-Has even worse dead-arm in 2009 with the Nats, gets shelled and needs to be quickly removed from the rotation.

If the pattern continues, he's going to be slightly below average at best.  If the recent trajectory continues, he'll be awful.  If he miraculously gets fully healed up and lives up to the promise of his rookie season, he could be above average, but what are the odds of that?

No. I have seen more than enough last year and this year to make that determination.

That's easy. Not a chance in hell.

Just a guess - barring a trade (Andy Sonnanstine?), it is down to Livo, Stammen, and Martin after tonight.  Olsen is not JP'd, but he is headed to extended spring.
