Can we take anything seriously that Rizzo says if Guzman is the Opening day starter?

Can't wait to see this place implode when Guzman is named starter. You just know it's going to happen.

I would fear for Mike Rizzo's safety.

While ST stats need to be taken with a grain of salt, it has been nice to see Pudge actually hitting. His offense certainly hasn't been what it used to be, but it will be important that he be productive. Hopefully, he can carry this over into the season.

He's ready for the season. His last few starts have been good

Desmond with his 3rd error at ST.

Needs to get focused.

60 pitches? Man, that was a pace for a complete game. How many weeks of the regular season will they spend ramping up to allowing starters to pitch 100-110? If Lannan is only at 60 now...

Yeah, although they seem to be trying for a way to justify benching or DLing Guz. I suspect there is a fair amount of internal debate. These are all learning opportunities for Desmond. They need to develop him at the big league level. Guz is a liability in the field and worse pouts if he is not batting up in the order where he has no business. I'm sick of Guz.

Desmond will make errors but you have to hope that he improves and the rest of the areas of his game are solid. Still, Guzman can't even make a throw to first so I see no other realistic option other than ID at the moment.

nice to see :bball: back in action

Agreed. They are clearly trying to improve the defense incrementally across the board with Pudge, Morgan, going with a platoon of solid fielders in RF, getting Dunn out of LF. It's a good strategy to focus on al incremental UZR improvement.

BUT IT IS ALL FOR NOUGHT IF THEY FILL THE SHORTSTOP POSITION WITH GUZMAN.

I was patiently waiting for a chance to face MacDougal so we could just let him walk our batters. Thanks Mike for coming through.

3:24: The Nationals tied up in the seventh against old friend Mike MacDougal, now pitching for the Marlins. Eric Bruntlett and Justin Maxwell led off with consecutive walks. Roger Bernadina followed with a line-drive single to the opposite field, scoring Bruntlett. Pete Orr followed with another walk, chasing MacDougal from the game. The bases are loaded with no outs in the top of the seventh, and it's 7-7.

The Nationals won, 9-7. Luis Atilano retired the first out while allowing a double to Mike Stanton. After the double, Jim Riggleman called on lefty Jesse English to finish off the game. He surrendered a bloop single, but struck out Hector Luna and induced a chopper to himself from old friend Emilio Bonifacio. That's English's second save of the spring. The Nationals are now 4-13.

4-2 since 0-11 start to Spring.
