Mock was actually pretty solid today.

:JCA batsignal:

I know I've read some one showing the stats that seemed to indicate that he was very lucky at the beginning and his success wouldn't continue like in the first few games.

Absolutely. It was pure luck that he was winning games at all. Martis is terrible.

I really have not given Martis much of a thought for a while.

Despite last season's starters resembling 1000 monkeys sitting at 1000 typewriters, eventually Stammen, Martin, and JZ turned out something resembling Hamlet.  I like Martin, and both Stammen and JZ were OK before injuries, and Detwiler looked like he was piecing things together in his second stint.

Putting Martin, Stammen, and Mock in the last 3 slots would be different from last year because we have a basis for thinking it would work besides blind faith.  having said that, Livo is slated to start next Wednesday. If I were a betting man, I'd think Martin is in the minors unless Olsen can't go, and that Stammen is in the pen.  Lannan - Marquis - Mock - Olsen - Livo.

Look at JZ's K numbers. He was more than OK.

Moreover, look at K vs. BB and his overall numbers in June/July.

Gets me a little giddy to start looking at 2011 with:

Marquis
Lannan
JZ
Stras
Olsen/Mock/Martin/Stammen/Balester

Just a nice set up for the future with plenty of solid young talent coming along to fill in the gaps.

Detwiler should trump all of those potions and Wang should still be here too.

See what happens when I'm up the entire day.  I forgot both of them.  Let's say then:

Marquis
Lannan
Wang
JZ
Stras
Detwiler

Who gets traded?  Do all the others get stuck in the pen?  This is quickly turning into a very nice problem to have.

Who knows what happens next offseason too. There is a pretty nice SP list.

Frothing at the mouth I am.  There's potentially 10-15 guys who would upgrade our projected rotation.  Grab 1 and who knows what we do with the rest of this mess.

Or we stay happy with our pitching talent and depth and go after an OF like Carl Crawford or maybe just Jayson Werth.

I don't know that you need to trade anyone, if Detwiler's willing to accept a bullpen role for a while.  It's likely Marquis and/or Wang will be gone after 2011 so, as long as Detwiler's content out of the pen, I think it could work.  Or maybe he just comes on strong and we can pull off a big time deal for a RF and they pull the stunner for Crawford or he surpasses Marquis and he moves to the pen or is traded.  There's a whole bunch of options.

There's a whole bunch of options.

It's really nice that none of them are named Odalis Perez, Tim Redding, or Mike Bacsik.

I would be very surprised if the fattest man not named Dmitri Young makes our pitching staff this year.

We've legitimately got 8-10 guys who are at, or nearly at, the MLB level for mid rotation pitchers with one ace starting in AA and one recovering from TJ surgery.  2010 looks good and 2011 and beyond is looking phenomenal.

Geographic proximity of ST facilities. Tell teams to stop moving to stupid Arizona.

Guzman certainly isn't in the competition if he isn't playing in the games.

Desmond walk followed by a Duncan 2B puts the Nats up 1-0 after a half inning.

Can we take anything seriously that Rizzo says if Guzman is the Opening day starter?
