Finally had some Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka & Bourbon Whiskey for myself last night. Very sweet with an alcohol burn. It was pretty good. Then I took a glass, filled it half with Weed and half with water, then took a lemon wedge and squeezed the juice into the glass and plopped the rind in there too. Tastes like good, strong, Southern Sweet Tea.

I think I put a little too much water in there so next time I'll lessen it, but overall I liked it and I found it better than it's competition in the Firefly brand.

Couldn't find the Scotch I wanted today - went for Caol Ila instead. Wow. Good call. Light colored, light flavored, but with a nice amount of peat (cloudiness). This is DELICIOUS! I had 2 good size servings neat. Went great with a drubbing of Michigan. Reasonably priced and recommended - oh I had the 12 year, not sure if they have one aged longer.

I ate at Las Palmas in downtown Chicago last night. It's a little bit pricey, but the food is to die for and the drinks are completely out of this world. The margaritas are freaking the bomb.

I bought one years ago when I had 2 or 3 events in a short period of time where I would need one.  It didn't cost much more than a suit, and it's definitely saved me a lot of tux rental fees over the years.

And yes, I can still wear it.

I rented a line green Tux once. They let me keep it so they didn't have to pay to have it dry cleaned.

Gots to get a cumberbund too. Boy I hate dressing above "Slob" level.

That is some nice money there.

Wtf is a cumberbund? Sounds like a fancy salad topping.

i can rock a suit like nobody's business, but the only time i have ever worn a tuxedo was at my wedding.

It's the gut strap. The man girdle. If your rental tux has a vest, you don't get one.

If one is a real sport, the tux should have a codpiece

Tried Jim Beam last night on the recommendation of the guy behind the counter.  I said that the holiday season has put a crimp in my wallet and I was looking for something similar to Makers Mark without busting the bank.  He recommended Jim Beam.  I had tried JD and Evan Williams (both of which weren't even close) but I gotta say, Jim Beam is a nice "poor man's" Makers if you're into it.

I like Wild Turkey a lot more than Beam.

I used to be a Beam drinker, and liked it at the time, but once I directly compared it to Crown Royal, it was exposed, and I began to look for alternatives.  Wild Turkey holds up much better in my personal taste vs. the premium brands.

But isn't Turkey a Tennessee whiskey and not sour mash?

It's a "straight Kentucky bourbon".  The sour mash technique is a variation of the standard bourbon process.

Wiki has a pretty nice set of writeups on Beam, Wild Turkey, bourbon, sour mash.  One revelation, the same company that owns Beam also owns Maker's Mark.

In my experience, good whiskey comes from Jack Daniel's or Scotland. But if JB is cheap, maybe I'm in for a bottle next time I run out.
