I have to back SF up on this one.  Nieves is no great shakes, but Bard is awful.  I remember there being a big debate on this earlier in the season, with everyone insisting Nieves was lucky and that Bard has more pop.  Well, that argument swayed me for a month or two when Bard was "hot" but he's been just as abysmal since as he was before, while Nieves continues to be "lucky."  Don't get me wrong, if we have to see him more than 30-40 times tops next year, I'm going to vomit, but he's modestly preferable over Bard.
I agree as well.  Didn't feel like saying anything since it would've been hopeless - everyone was dogpiling on Nieves/SF, but at least Nieves has a glove.  He's a suitable back-up catcher.  Bard is just terrible all-around.

Good info, SF.  Thanks for sharing.
kind of unclear on their plans for Desmond. they view him as a future SS but then they say that Guzman has a spot locked up next year to go along with a FA signing. Where does ID fit in?

I'd rather not just sign a guy like Jack Wilson to be the SS for next year just because he plays good defense meanwhile he bats .220 with no power.

Martin facing the Marlins 2 starts in a row. they should crush him.

this is a big test for J.D.

yeah some posters jumped the gun ... wait to the details play out first before getting your panties in a bunch.

if they can get a o-dog/aki to play 2nd, good, if not move guz to second.

i think it's important to get desmond as many starts as possible in the remainder of the year so we can get a feel of whether or not he's our guy next year.  it's nice to know we have ID and Espinosa in the future.

Third: Riggleman on Friday said, rather emphatically, that Guzman's feelings on the potential switch shouldn't even matter.

Riggleman's feelings on playing sucky "veterans" like Orr and Villone shouldn't even matter.

If Desmond proves to be the real deal and they can get a 2B then Guzman should be traded/released. There would be NO reason to have Desmond wait if he can help the team next year.

how will we ever know if he is the real deal if we don't play him?

Martin can be a serviceable MLB pitcher, if he can cut down on the homers. :?

lol you've said some crazy crap before, but look at what you just wrote.  it may take the cake.

livan is a former two-time all star and a world series MVP.  he's a proven major league vet.  is he an ace or front of the line pitcher?  no.  but he's looking like a pretty good #5 pitcher.

martin has proven crap at the MLB level.

That would probably be why the are considered the best player on that team.  What do you want to do, always walk the best player of each team?
