And, really, are we really going there? You know, only rings matter...

The Nats are not exactly the New York Yankees. This franchise has to count small victories like a highly touted prospect making it to the bigs, creating a huge buzz and helping it to maybe get in the playoff race. That would be considered a success by most Nats fans, I would think.

I'm hoping the rings will come in time but I want to enjoy the journey, too.

Isn't a callup a success? There are many small successes on the road to a championship ring. I'd even call last season a success for the Nats given where they were last year and the year before.

Personally I wish the best for Harper and his family, but as a fan his family is of no concern to me.

The only reason anyone "has" to count the "little things" is because we're conditioned with 6 years of losing baseball. Achieving mediocrity this year was another solid step towards the ultimate goal, but in and of itself it means absolutely nothing.

You are right on this one. Sort of. I'm convinced that if you predict, say, a 59-win season in 2011, that down deep you root for them to not exceed that so you can be right. I think it's fundamental human nature. We want to be proven right so we can validate ourselves. (Any psychology majors out there that can tell me I'm crazy?)

Of course, others just like to whine and complain and that's their fundamental human nature.

But I'm not questioning anyone's fandom (if that's word) just their sanity. Be definition if you are on this board and follow the team closely, you are a fan. (Or at least a follower.) But predicting (and I submit sometimes therefore hoping for) failure is a strange way to show it.

Im so sick and tired of this 'Only the end results' attitude. There is a process to get to the end. If you don't enjoy the in-between successes, you'll never experience happiness. Agood prospect is part of the process! A hit with RISP is part of the process. A fantastic defensive play is part of the process. Each win is also part of the process as well as learning from your losses.

A fan is there to support the team throughout this process (aka "journey). I guess BBIL and I are "old" school. We don't have an expectation of losing attitude. We have learned to be happy with the victories to get us there. We are hopeful individuals and not 'it's all or nothing'

you do know it's possible to root for the team and enjoy the game on a micro level, but still be less than impressed on a macro level?

Just because people don't like the progress or consider almost .500 a successful season (macro) doesn't mean they don't enjoy individual wins or plays (micro), and some people are implying otherwise

Mods - can someone clean up this thread so we can get back to what it is about - Bryce Harper's development? LOD v. Sunshine round whatever makes it tough for somebody wanting to come here and follow the prospect. We have an LOD v. Sunshine thread. What is it doing here?
