Always, always starts slow and then gets the hang of it. His first two big-league months will stink and the national sports media will be ruthless, but it won't matter a bit in the end.

Hopefully the reputation sticks- he seems like he'd be the kind of kid to play harder with a chip on his shoulder

He's hitting .297 on the season overall in the Minors/AFL.

In AFL: .244/.327/.467 (.794 OPS), 6 BBs, 7 Ks. Not bad considering terrible first week.

If you add in his AFL numbers, he's actually hitting .292 on the season.

But my original point remains.

He's hitting .244 in the AFL.

Am I missing something?

Not missing anything.  It is .297 in his last 10 games, according to that link to his stats.

I'm the one who missed it. My bad.

But the point is he's coming around.

Harper with the walk-off 3-run homer.  It is his second straight game with a homer and four RBIs.  BA is up to .260.

He's not ready. He needs more minor league time.

Having seen him play 6-7 times this year, left handers eat him for lunch.

Anyone expecting him to play quality innings for the Nats this year is really going to be disappointed.

I hope Linty is right unless Harper really tears it up.  My bet is they get some CF like Span and go Morse-Span-Werth, with Harper getting a September call up.  Morse then gets 1B next season.

I'll be very interested to see where Harper, Norris, and Rendon rank among the game's top prospects this time next year, if as I expect, they don't get too many MLB games to qualify.  It would not shock me to see those three plus Cole, Peacock, and Meyer all among the top 50.  Purke could be too if he gets it together during the season.

The BB:K ratio impresses.  Wasn't he kind of hacktastic in AA?
