Beimel "didn't fit in the plan" either.

Yeah, but no one wanted him so we got him for 2 mil.

Also, some of those guys may require picks if they're offered arby (although if I were them, I'd take it).

God I love this board :D

everyone is basically for the same thing, calling up what we have in the minors and seeing if they are an improvement over the current guys in September, but yet everyone is arguing as if everyone else is against the idea.

so is anyone actually against checking out some minor league pen arms come September?

hilarious.  I went through the majority of this thread trying to find out if there was someone that liked the bullpen (or opposed changes).  From what i can tell it's a free for all for who hates the bullpen the most.  Been a long year i suppose.

So what are you even advocating, then?

This thread is like a troll convention.  A bunch of people being contrary without positing a solution.

I'm saying keep them until you can find better options. You guys just wanna dump them, and then hope and pray we get someone better. It's like jumping off a cliff and hoping there's a soft landing below.

you know what guys? Let's keep the discussions civil. We don't have enough fans to have this nagfest.

When we get as good as the Sox we'll have more than enough bandwagon fans to troll up the board.

As for my take on the pen

Mac: Should be fine as a holdover till Storen gets here., then move to setup
Clip: Solid. Been working too many long innings in my opinion, that role should be someone else's
Burnett: More than decent as a lefty pen, also been overused since the trade
Bergy: Has stuff to make it work, no really, should keep him around. He's pretty marginal right now with upside
Villone: Get him out
Sosa: Get him out

I say sign one reliever, call up one prospect that does well in Sept. And give Berg one more chance to show he can stick in the back of the pen

:lmao:

McDougal, Clippard, Burnett should probably be kept around. But neither of those should be in the closer or setup role. Bergmann could be kept around as long reliever/mop up reliever.

Burnett, Clippard, and McDougal are the only ones that should be considered for next season. Everyone else is expendable or trash. Leaving the skid marks in our undies because we want to remember that fine meal we had once isn't going to fly anymore. Time to clean our underwear.

Yet, you want to keep them and know they aren't going to get any better. It's like jumping off a cliff and knowing there are spikes at the bottom that will make sure to get the job done.

Given the Nationals ability to replace bad ballplayers with even worse, caution isn't a bad idea. Remember we couldn't do worse than Tony Armas until we got Mike Bacsik. We couldn't do worse than Ramon Ortiz until we got a load of Jason Simontacchi, we couldn't do worse than Tim Redding which begat Daniel freaking Cabrera. Every time somebody says "We can't do worse that this guy" The Nats Front office has risen to the challenge.

That be said there are plenty of FA relievers this off season. The Nats have zero excuse not go and sign a couple or three.

I find fallacy in this.

Bacsik was not worse than Armas, Simontacchi wasn't much worse than Ortiz, and anyone who thought "we couldn't do worse" than Redding was an idiot since Redding was just slightly below average.  You also have to remember that Simontacchi and Bacsik were acquired in the infamous '07 offseason, when the Nats were devoted to being one of the chepaest teams in baseball.

Also, your three examples were all starters.  Relievers are so much more replaceable.

Um no? I'm saying keep them UNTIL we get better guys, which I expect/hope that we do this offseason.
