His approach hasn't been very good in a lot of these at bats. But he suffers from being yanked out of the lineup. It seems after he has a good game, he isn't put back out the next day. That's stupid. He's incredibly talented and needs to play every day. Eckstein can work on adjustments, but he needs to be out there to gain consistency.

A lot of his gaffes (and he's had a lot of them) just look like stupid mistakes you wouldn't expect a big-leaguer to make.  He's either stupid or he doesn't pay attention.

Dukes is my boy, but I don't think he has a future here. I've read that they don't like how inconsistent he is and how
many mental mistakes he makes. This year when he's been in right he has played pretty good defense, but in center not so much. At the plate the beginning of the year before he got hurt on May 20 he was hitting .277/4/27.
And since nothing much has happened. If I were the Nats I'd get rid of him now before teams see all of his weaknesses and don't want him anymore.

84 through 6. If he can go one more inning w/o considering a run considering he didn't have his best stuff, 7 innings and 1 run is STUDLY.

In the field an on the bases yes. I don't see his problems at the plate to be gaffes, just out of synch a bit and poor approach. It's hard to know what he is working on with Eckstein. I worry without being established as the primary RFer that he is approaching at bats looking for HRs and they need to talk to him. I also suspect that Acta doesn't like Dukes and probably doesn't know how to talk to him and fails to have the staff work with him on things.

But he's allowing that to carry over into other aspects of his game (defense, baserunning, etc.) which then furthers his problems at the plate.  It's a viscious cycle with him.  He needs Buddhism (or Taoism).

A guy with his athletic ability just can't make those types of mistakes.

With a relatively quick 7th inning Lannan could actually pitch into the 8th.

what he said doesn't make any sense. As what Palmer and the others say, Willie takes the same quick stroke no matter what the count is.

Getting out on an 0-2 or 2-2 pitch is a lot different than getting out on a 2-0 pitch.

True.

And if we don't score any more it would be a save situation for McDougal.     :?
