Personally, from their track record, my opinion is that JJ is gone by July 31, and maybe sooner depending on arby. The Fish will likely lowball, $4+, and JJ will win if he puts $8 to $10 on the table, and won't get a single pay check of such a contract from the Fish.

Half the time the Mets are mentioned in any talks I always feel like it is just a media wet dream just to get people to pay attention. That franchise is like a falling turd from an airplane right onto a bullseye in the middle of some barren cornfield.

They have the second richest market in baseball, next to the other half of NY. If it weren't for the Wilpons financial problems, the Mets likely would have Madoff with more free agents.

The Phils are becoming the Red Sox of the NL. (IMO, there's currently no Yankees in the NL. The Dodgers could be if they wanted to though.)

Quite right. They should have the resources and market to take on a $130m budget. As their studs go through arbitration and they buy out free agency, they will have to expand their payroll.

The NL East should be about as financially strong as the AL East. I would rank the financial potential of the teams as follows:

1) NYY
2) NYM
3) PHI & BOS (giving the sox credit for NESN)
5) WAS
6) TOR
7) ATL
8 ) BAL
9) FLA
10) TB

The top 7 should all be in the top 12 in baseball.

Well, it also prevents any of their competitors from swooping in and picking him up. Smart move and makes that lineup even stronger.

He would have been a great fit at 2B and in the 2 hole in the lineup for the Nats.

Sigh.

If they are playing him at third, then he can give them as good or better defense and a decent average out of the 7th / 8th spot. they might even bat him 2d, giving them a righty near the top of the order, and drop Victorino back to a traditional RBI position (note - this would be the wrong move sabremetrically, but I am not sure how Manuel thinks on these lines). Plus, it gives them great coverage in case Utley gets injured.

Too long / too much IMO, but for the sake of argument, if you project him as a 3 WAR player in 2010 and a 2 WAR (average) in 2011, you've gotten his 3d year for free or even a discount.

He seems to play a pretty decent 2nd to me. Yeah, he goes through a wild phase for a few weeks each season, but I'd leave him there if possible.
