i like it. if St. Claire can corral Cabrera, he has the potential to be dominant.

that he does. if he can overcome Bergmann-itis.

I gotta say he's a prime candidate for 5th starter.

Doesn't seem like an upgrade over Redding, but it's not a terrible signing.

Eh, trying to find a flash in the pan ... maybe it works, if it doesn't, hopefully it's not too much of a waste.
Now let's move on to a couple minor league pitcher signings, get us some relief, see what else we can find in other teams' trash...

I'll say this..

if St. Claire can actually manage to get Cabrera turned around, I better not hear another complaint about St. Claire.

Exactly MrMadison, he's being brought in as a fifth starter.  He has shown flashes that's for sure and like I mentioned earlier, when he's paired with a pitching coach he likes, he's on top of his game (at least as much as he's ever going to be).  He has a very live fastball and a pretty nice slider, I'd say his breaking stuff still needs a bit of tweaking.  He's going to walk batters, no doubt about it, but when he's on he doesn't give up many runs and can rack up the k's.  Expect some happy game threads to go along with some unhappy ones

That leaves us with Lannan, Olsen and Cabrera as pretty much locks in the rotation.

I don't think Cabrera is a lock.  a heavy candidate sure, but not a lock.

he's still gonna have to show and prove in ST.

I hope someone teaches him how to hold a bat, swing a bat, and bunt, too. He seriously looks like a 4-year-old girl at the plate.

Not thrilled but at least it's only a 1-year deal.

Going to the NL should help him but I think he's a lost cause anyways.

Given the complete lack of proven big league talent, this is not a bad move. It at least creates competition. It's a low risk on the Nats part with potential upside. It is not like he is being brought in to be the savior. Hopefully, we'll have five guys who perform better, and if we do, he could end up as long relief. This assumes of course we didn't spend silly money on him.

What happened to the Lerner who said he was taking over and running things his way from now on? Looks like we're still dumpster-diving for starting pitchers just as we did during the glory days of the plan.

We said we werent going to sign any big free agent pitchers this off season, it was about a bat or two. I dont mind this signing, i just want to see what St. Claire can do with him.

This guy is pure potential. He is either one of those players that will "get it" at some point or we will be reading this story every year as team after team releases him only for some other team to sign him based on potential.

I agree. Cabrera really intrigues me. The guy could be awesome if he could get his head on straight. I wonder if the move to the National League will help him out any? Let's hope St. Claire can work some of his magic here.

Agreed. I think Cabrera's terrible, but for a one-year deal, it's worth rolling the dice to see if Randy can straighten him out.

I'd only be pissed about the move if it had been for multiple years.
