I guess I'd be cool with it if he promised to get us a first or second round pick back when we were through with him. He'd have to promise, though.
The problem is my inclination would be to trade him at the deadline and let Hernandez take over, if we signed Hudson.

I think instead of signing Orlando we should focus on finding creative ways to trade our dead wood and, more importantly, evaluate which of our prospects we can part with, in order to ship things off for our real need: pitchers. I want to be able to go into '09 with Lannan, Olsen, and ideally Zimmermann starting, but our bullpen could definitely use help. In fact, if we have to sign another free agent, a talented reliever is a smart way to go.

yep.

I think Plan C should most definitely involve making a trade for some pitching.

One team's trash is another team's treasure. You know Bowden hopes other GMs think that way.

Dude, MLBTR is awash with comments from Braves fans begging Frank Wren to please trade for Austin Kearns.

Even more jaw-dropping:
"Paging Omar Minaya, paging Omar Minaya, please pick up the white coutesy phone. Lets see the Nats are loaded with OF, right handed bats. Hmm, what is it the Mets need? Oh yeah, a right handed OF bat. Get me Willingham!" - "carlosgomezisfast"

Willingham is a good player. We just have too many outfielders and first basemen now.

I don't understand why people would want Kearns, though.

We need to keep Willingham and we need a 4th OF cuz Willingham isn't going to give you 162 games no chance -- more like 130 tops ...

The Mets really want another mediocre former Nat patrolling their outfield (even if he hasn't played a game for us yet)?

Can't we just call Plan B:  "O.K. you freaking L.A.C. whiners, QUIT YOUR nagging" and lock this thread?

we wanted our team to get better.  they went out and spent and our team is a bit better, so i'm cool with that and i've already applauded the family for going out and getting him.  so i don't know who's nagging now.  we had every right to stand up and call out for a slugger, just like you had every right to say we don't need one.

but i've said before i'm ready to lock the thread.

There's no point in locking the thread. People will stop posting in it eventually.
