Are you trying to sound dumb? What if that .300 hitter never takes a walk ever. What if the .240 hitter is Ryan Howard and never ever takes a walk. Because there's no running or bat contact, you ignore a huge part of the equation. That's actually, without exaggeration stupid.

Hinske is washed up and useless. I'd rather play Belliard at first.
Hinske is like Dunn without as many walks.

If you project his numbers last year over 600 ABs he would have had: .247 BA, 28 Doubles, 27 HRs, 82 RBIs, 64 Walks, 120 Ks, 14 SBs.

Abreu >>>>>>>>>>>>> Dunn

I think the sun is setting on Abreu's career. I'll take Dunn.

I'm fine with either, really.

I haven't heard sportsfan weigh in on Abreu.  all I've seen is his manlove for Eric Hinske and his rabid hate for Dunn.

whaddya think, sportsfan? Bobby Abreu?

Hinske is Dunn without the power. Check his numbers. Sportsfan's off the deep end

Or the HR's - or the OBP. It's called sucking. 120 K's without 40 HR's is Wilkerson without the slick fielding. The guy sucks big time.

Hinske's 162 game average: .254/.335/.438 19 HR 34 2B

Dunn's 162 Game Average:   .247/.381/.518  40 HR 29 2B

just for reference.

Not a fan of 30+ year old quick fix stopgaps like everyone else on here but I'd take Abreu over Dunn any day of the week.  Abreu though like Dunn could break down at anytime.

2 year deal at most for Abreu or Dunn.

I never said he was good. Everyone here is just begging that we sign a 1B-man and I suggested a more realistic, affordable, and smarter signing.

but you want 30-year old Eric Hinske(who is pretty much JUST LIKE Adam Dunn, except only not nearly as good as what we'd need him to do) instead of 28 year old Adam Dunn(who can do EXACTLY what we need him to do, very well).  :?

Dude I don't want either one. But I'd rather have 1 year of NJ+Hinske (or whoever) than 4 years of Dunn.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm not fluent in cryptology. You make blue911 seem like a novice in making posts where no one has any idea what you are trying to say.

why? and try to bring something other than "I heard" or "go read the Reds forum".

he's 28. so he's not old and broken down.

he balances his low batting average with a high OBP.

he mashes the freak out of the ball.

he's got no injury history to speak of.

if we sign him, he'll be here for 4 years at the absolute most, and more likely less than that, as we'll probably trade him for prospects 2 or 3 years into his contract if we aren't contending.

so I don't understand your rabid hatred for the guy.

ok, he strikes out a lot(as opposed to hitting into a lot of double plays, or whatever), and plays questionable defense. is that all?

you seem to have a deep-seated dislike of the guy, and I can't really fathom why.

It's not personal. I just think he is a terribly overrated baseball player. I've never met him so I wouldn't know what he's like in real life.

Hinske's career OPS- .773
Dunn's career OPS- .899

How exactly are they the same?

He's lazy, not a good baseball player. There's no coincidence that he's never been on a good team before. He was part of the problem in Cincy and they finally realized that and then dealt him for all they could get (not much).

People on here haven't seen the light but I have and so have most teams in MLB. Cincy got rid of him as soon as they could and then he went to Arizona who didn't even offer him arbitration and showed no effort to re-sign him. There have been very few teams that have had reported interest in Dunn in the off-season. The Blue Jays GM came out and spoke his mind last year and he was dead on. People don't just make up mean things to say for the hell of it. It's the truth.

Quote
"Let me ask you something. What do you know about Adam Dunn?" Ricciardi said to the caller. "He's a lifetime .230, .240 hitter that strikes out a ton and hits home runs.

"Do you know that the guy really doesn't like baseball all that much?" Ricciardi continued. "Do you know the guy doesn't have a passion to play the game that much? How much do you know about the player? There's a reason why you're attracted to some players and there's a reason why you're not attracted to some players. I don't think you'd be very happy if we brought Adam Dunn here."

How can anyone say that Dunn and Hinske are comparable? Dunn is a consistent HR and OB guy. You can't put a price on getting men on base. Last season we would have killed to have some runners on.

He had 7 total errors last year and 6 the year before. I don't understand why everyone says he is such a bad fielder.
He does have a lot more errors at 1st than in left. Maybe moving Willingham to 1st and Dunn to left would be a better fit?
