I have no clue. I asked a simple question and it was brought up.

No, I mean what's the origin of the word "grudge" ... it's a strange sounding word

Online poll results from the Boston Globe.

Do you think John Henry is bluffing when he writes the Red Sox "are not going to be a factor" for Mark Teixeira?

No ... I take him at his word. There is actually a limit to the Sox' spending power.
   50.4%
Yes ... this is just a negotiating ploy by the Sox; they're still in it.
   49.6%

With which team do you think Mark Teixeira will end up signing?

Red Sox
   36.9%
Angels
   31.4%
Yankees
   18.0%
Nationals
   9.4%
Orioles
   4.3%

Which of the options below best describes how you're feeling about this latest development?

This will work out for the best one way or another. In Theo I trust.
   64.8%
John Henry is crazy! He'd be an All-Star for this team for eight years and the Sox are throwing it away over a few million dollars?!
   18.0%
Good riddance ... I don't want him anyway. It looks like Teixeira is just making a money grab like most other Boras clients.

honestly, personally speaking ... the longer it remains quiet, it decreases the chance of him landing here (allowing other teams to up their offer, etc).

Sure last night was met with much optimism, but like I said with it being quiet, it probably means there was bluffing going on and the Sawx may scoop him up.

Im still on the fact that the Red Sox are out.

John Henry freaking said there out.

But no here comes ESPN and all the hard on for the sox posting stupid offers the next freaking day.

Just make your damn decision already, Boras is a freaking douche bag.

Main Entry:
  grudge
Pronunciation:
    \ˈgrəj\
Function:
    transitive verb
Inflected Form(s):
    grudged; grudg·ing
Etymology: Middle English grucchen, grudgen to grumble, complain, from Anglo-French grucer, grucher, of Germanic origin; akin to Middle High German grogezen to howl

All depends on what John Henry's budget limits are. The fact that Boras told Henry that his offer was $20 mil light which sent Henry reeling out of the room in pain, I'd say we're still looking good.  8)

I wish we had some official statement on when to expect a decision.
This is dragging out forever. I bet players like Dunn and Hudson must be pissed off. They know that where they go, hinges on what Tex does.

Supposedly, Boston are still in it according to ESPN ()

Olney and Gammons said that.

"Buster Olney and Peter Gammons suggest a lower amount was offered by Boston: $165-170MM.  That's seemingly at least $20MM short of what Boras wants.  He might be happy with eight years, $184MM ($23MM per).

Olney, Gammons, Adam Kilgore, and Nick Cafardo are all on board with the sentiment that the Red Sox remain in the mix for Teixeira."

Adam Kilgore? Does he work for ESPN now? He was at the Post last fall, covering the Orioles

Really nice guy, too.

I think a lot of guys don't want us to get him, because they can't call the Lerners cheap anymore.

I'll gladly give it up if this works out but it's results that matter. If the Nats fail to sign any free agents on top of losing their first round pick last summer then it's the status quo from me.  ;)

JGardner on OH is claiming he has new insider info
He says it is bad for the Sox, and there is good and bad for the O's. He has made no mention of us yet.

He said he won't post it without getting permission, but now everyone is starting to freak out.
