I was stunned at the rate at which he scores when he reaches base. However, weren't some of you BP guys arguing that scoring runs is the product of those hitting behind the player in question? Is this only used when it's convenient for the argument?

If he's scoring at a high rate for when he reaches base, that's mostly due to luck.  However, Nick runs the bases very well, he has good speed for a big guy, and is smart in his judgements. And, he's often starting on 2nd.  But still, there's probably luck in the timing of hits behind him.

No, just common sense.  If we were to acquire Dunn, put him in left where he can do the least amount of damage defensively, and move Willingham to first if Nick's not healthy.  I agree with Minty, Dunn would be a horrific first baseman.

I could live with Dunn in LF and Willingham at 1st. I'm just through with NJ. I hope we can trade him and get something decent in return. We can't keep giving these guys a thousand chances. Hill should be gone also.

Nick's not a premier HR guy, but he stings the ball and hits a ton of doubles, draws a ton of walks, runs the bases decently for a big guy and scores a boatload of runs.  He's the straw that stirs the drink, meaning when he's healthy and producing, our offense is happening.  I've just about written him off in terms of his health, but I love having him in the lineup.

He's on balance just a modest step below Tex in overall productivity, when playing, but very close.

Nick is my all time favorite Nat, not because of pimposity, but because he's a damn fine baseball player - good guy and good sense of humor as well.

All that being said, we need a HR threat.

Sure why not! People are already arguing about how awesome NJ is even though the motherfreaker never stays healthy. Today is the birth date of TRNJWH. Our freaking fanbase never learns.  :bang:

i'm with ya i'm ready to pull the plug on nj.  oh wait nevermind.  i was ready a longgggggggg time ago.

Agreed on Nick.  I love watching him play. A lineup of Nick Johnsons would kill opposing pitchers, score a bazillion runs.

for about 30 games.

then we'll be stuck with a lineup of Kory Castos for the rest of the season.

That is sort of the issue here.

Good lord...a whole team of Nick Johnsons? Could you imagine how much the insurance premiums would cost for that team?

"Gordon Edes says Boston's eight-year offer is more than $160MM but less than the $184MM figure Lynch mentioned.  It won't be a "take it or leave it" type of meeting.  In a newer article Edes says the Angels haven't budged off their original offer, which is north of $160MM.  He adds that the Nationals have been told by Boras that they have to pay extra.  Also, Edes talked to a Red Sox exec who called the idea of a $25MM salary for Tex "ridiculous.""

Pay extra?

I think we all knew what song you meant.

That rule should be written in stone with severe penalties for violating it because I've had some jerks resort to those measures. That's one of the reasons I now wear a cup.
