Will the change to the NL and having the 8 and 9 hitters help out?
I don't have his inter league stats to back this up, just a hunch.

This doesn't matter TOO much, but he is absolutely the worst hitter I've ever seen. He usually swings about two feet over the ball. He won't be able to lay down a sac bunt either. His one sac "bunt" that he does have in his career was an accident. He was trying to get out of the way of a strike, but he left the bat over the plate.

Oh man, please tell me we're not. If we're stuck with that clown for three years...

We've been stuck with Hill and Bergmann for that long and they have brought close to nothing to the table so it wouldn't be that different.

I can't believe that people compiled a list of most frequently used quotes in Nats GD threads without listing THIS:

Again they are cherry picking. They state he came to bat with 437 runners on base 30th in baseball but don't mention what his RBI rank was. The snidely state that he came to bat 97 times with a runner on third but failed to mention 42 of those times there were TWO outs and he had a .400 BA/.500 OBA/.800 SLG in those occasions. But then those nuumbers don't support their predetermined conclusion.

It seems patently obvious that the RBI is an achievement highly correlated to opportunity, similar to the save.  To then seek to parse out the effect of opportunity from performance is an excellent example of what SABR analysis ought to be able to do to enhance understanding of the game.  Maybe that 85 RBI guy really is better than that 105 RBI guy, but just didn't have as many opportunities.

The point with Carter is that he did less with more than many other all-star class hitters in the same situations, and I think the case they make over his career is strong.  He had premier table setters in front of him, and he did a decent though unspectacular job of driving them in.  I don't think they are saying he sucked, but they are pointing out the flaws in using RBI's to elevate him.

Maybe we could bring him in to make Bergmann feel better about his lack of hitting. Then give them all trophies.

Am I right though? What's the point of reporting that he's close to making a decision? Get back to me when there is concrete news and stop trying to milk the (non)story.

I think they're just throwing you know what on the wall and hoping that it sticks. Saying he is close means nothing. Hell, he could be close for another week. They just need filler on ESPN news.

Gadzooks. That sucks.

But if he were pitching in the NL it wouldn't be interleague anymore.

I think they covered it in a round about way.

I swear if I hadn't met spidernat in person, I'd think he was a grumpy old man.  I mean like the grumpy, super-cynical, mad-at-the-world type 60-70 year old who somehow learned how to use these newfangled internets.

I think Tex has already made his decision. "Close" just means they're working out the details.

No age limit, just cant buy drinks, which sucks. I guess ill just always pregame lol

which reminds me, me and hammonds were going to see someone at one of the games, the one where we got the nats scarf, and we were in our respected jerseys (me = zimmerman and him = mille time)

and then the topic swayed to me being his wingman lol

It had to happen at some point. I'd rather it just be done with so we can move on. If it's not us, I really hope the O's or Red Sox pay that ridiculous $28 mil per ($224 mil over 8 years maybe ) that Tex wants.

Then maybe we can bag Dunn, Hudson and Cruz, trade for Lars Anderson of the Red Sox if they get Tex, and call it good.

Karl Ravech said on ESPN that Tex may be leaning towards the Orioles. I still think the Red Sox are gonna get him at the last minute.
