When do you think this madness will be finished?

This weekend? Next week? Christmas week? After!? Its eating me up!

It's hard to say, but if offers are being increased this quickly after original offers were made, one would think this could escalate to conclusion pretty quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if it got wrapped up before the end of the weekend.

I think I know why they are so confident now.

apparently one of the insiders has leaked that the Orioles will get a "last-chance" opportunity to beat the highest offer, as some sort of "hometown advantage".  i mean like right before he signs the contract, he'll approach the O's and say "I'm about to take this deal from *insert team*, can you beat it?"

and they are mixing that with the "Angelos won't dare lose him to the Nats/Sox" angle, and they are convinced that no matter what, the Orioles are going to outbid whoever the high bid is, at the very last minute.

Well I guess we'll find out soon enough -- but really with all the other stuff that's been spouted their insiders sound like clowns

Clowns with benefits.

Maybe in a few years, we'll get "insiders" as cool as theirs.

My stance on the whole matters is im going with the "were the highest bidders". Just to make myself sleep better tonight.

Orioles not planning to increase offer to Teixeira
MacPhail says club still in running for free-agent slugger

By Jeff Zrebiec | jeff.zrebiec@baltsun.com
    9:11 PM EST, December 11, 2008

LAS VEGAS - Orioles officials left the Bellagio Hotel this afternoon still feeling they have a shot at signing prized free agent Mark Teixeira, though all signs continue to point to their having to overcome long odds.

As the winter meetings concluded, the Orioles, one of four teams believed to be bidding on Teixeira, had a seven-year offer on the table worth between $140 million and $150 million, according to an industry source. The club had not dramatically sweetened the offer and had no immediate plans to do so, according to the source. However, Orioles president Andy MacPhail told reporters he believed the club is still in the running to land the slugger, who grew up in Severna Park and prepped at Mount St. Joseph.

"We have no reason to believe [they're not in it]," MacPhail said. "I won't get into the he said, she said. The best way to say it is that until we're told otherwise, we believe we are part of the process. ... We've never been dogmatic about saying this is it and this is all it would be. I'm sure if there is interest on the other side, there will be more dialogue. If they choose to go another way, that's their choice."

The general feeling around the lobby at the posh hotel was that the Boston Red Sox are the clear front-runners, though their offer is unknown. It is believed the Washington Nationals have extended the biggest bid, an eight-year deal worth $160 million, though there has been plenty of speculation their offer is even larger.

could easily be misdirection on the part of Macphail.

If the Lerners REALLY drop 8*20 on a player, then I have a big plate of crow I'm prepared to eat.  But I still have a nagging feeling that the Sawx will do anything to land him, and they are in any event a more desirable destination for players who don't like losing in front of a few thousand people.

Admit it: You'd laugh at crapbag teams like the Nats too if your franchise were as good as Boston's.

I wouldn't.  That's THE reason I quit being a Yankees fan.  Yankee fans are jerks.

"The Red Sox told everybody that I wouldn't sign and when it got to a late enough round they said, 'Let's take a flier on him,' " Teixeira told Baseball America in '06. "They spoiled me for everyone else." The Red Sox still offered the $1.5 million. But Teixeira, with a "ninth-rounder" slur next to his baseball name, turned it down.

I forgot he had a bad history with the Red Sox. The quote is from Boswell column this morning.

Joel Sherman is reporting we've only offered 7 years at 140 million. Our backup plans are Dunn and Orlando Hudson.
Can anyone get a straight answer?

The Nationals have made a seven-year, $140 million bid for Mark Teixeira and signaled that they could go higher.

However, Washington has put secondary plans into motion. If they fail to land Teixeira, the Nationals will ramp up efforts to land Adam Dunn and Orlando Hudson.

That better be Dunn AND Hudson, not Dunn  OR Hudson - Hudson doesn't hit too many homers

Yahoo Sports loves the Nats:

Quote
Mark Teixeira, winner, Washington Nationals, loser: You have to play Tex and the Nats as a parlay. Teixeira could be on his way to joining Alex Rodriguez as baseball’s $200 million players because just as A-Rod had Tom Hicks and the Rangers to drive the bidding beyond reason, so, too, does Teixeira have Nats owner Ted Lerner. Lerner’s best negotiating tactic seems to be to ask “How high?” when agent Scott Boras snaps, “Jump.” The Red Sox, Angels and Orioles might all be forced to check out of the bidding, but for now they refuse to believe that Teixeira willingly would commit the next decade to a team that lost 102 games last season.

Not to get back on the topic of "ESPN hates the Nats", but if there is anyone who is more misinformed, unresearched, and just copies opinions from all the other major media sources, it's the jokers are Yahoo.
