It seems like your riding this train just to be able to say "I told you so" when the signing doesn't happen.

Whatever. Teixeira is NOT worth this much money. Not even close. Everyone's been so caught up in the hoopla that they forget that this dude is not worth 9-10 years, $180+ Million. You figure if you are going to pay a guy that much that he is the best hitter in the game and is going to instantly make you a contender. That is just not the case. He's not even in the discussion of the best hitters in the game and he is NOT going to instantly make a team a contender, especially in the case of the O's.

Go to the Orioles, Mark. Have fun making $20 Million for the next 9 years on a perennial last place team that has no hope and no future. Whatever, you're still getting paid right? That's all that matters.

We should lock you and Hammondsnats in a steel cage death match.

Ultimately, I think that DC and the Os are getting played as well. The Nats offer was legitimate, but there was no way that was going to be enough. If the Lerners don't make a subsequent offer that sweetens the pot, then this was all BS by the Lerners. Nice try for attention, but they don't get points for making an offer that was destined to be a runner up. A sweetened offer with a take it or leave it attitude is fine. But so far, they have shown nothing.

I'm of the same opinion. Why are the Nationals trying to low ball Boras? The best chance of landing Teixeira is to have the best offer. I believe that 10/200 should have been the starting point.

It's called business. You lowball in hopes you can get your target cheaper. This is nothing new. It's like hustling in pool: you never show the other guy your speed until your ready to make a sucker out of him or save your ass.

I know nothing about pool. But bidding on the premier free agent is not a typical business transaction. Other teams can offer tradition, winning records or home team affection, in addition to a large amount of money. The Nats don't have any thing to offer Teixeira except money. Does anybody really think that Boras would steer Teixeira towards the Nats for the current offer?

Sportscenter reported it as true - so I'd give it 75% confidence

He would if it turned out to be the highest one -- it was reported by many sources that the Nats had the highest offer on the table at the end of the winter meetings -- did the Nats FO come out and say that was their final offer? Did they say they weren't going to increase their offer if they had to?  I haven't seen any thing else confirmed, other than the Angels (who matched the offer) that anyone has made an offer that's higher -- maybe the Nats have made a counter offer at this point -- we don't know -- everything is just noise and speculation at this point -- personally, I think the Nats (and baltimore) are getting played.

I'm sure O's fans have seen him 20 different places at the stadium, all at the same time.

Sources tell me that Mark Teixeira is tall - more on this later. Also, he's a good hitter.

It could be a Orange Orioles customizable t-shirt compliments of Angelos. That'd settle the deal wouldn't it?
