It measures up perfectly because you'd tell your the friends the same thing the Lerners would tell you: Who the freak are you to tell me my limits when you don't know jack?

But they would be saying that to all the people who spend money on their product.

Your just nagging to nag and having nothing solid to back up what your saying.

WTF are you talking about? They haven't shown they are willing to spend money to improve the team. And I won't give them a pass until they prove they will spend. I think there's solid evidence that up to this point they have not spent any money on bringing in quality FA's. Do you have evidence that they have? Check out our roster.

These aren't closed bids right? They are allowed to go back to the Nats and say the Sox offered 8 years at 160, right?
Also, can't we put in some player and team options that stretch this into 10 years at 200 mil or even 10 years at 210?

another thing Sheinen said the Nats were worried about was giving an out clause like ARod had in his contract.  they don't seem to want to do that.

I think it's gonna take 10/200m plus the Out to get it done though.

Face it, the Lerners, Kasten, JimBo, whoever, have never lied to you.

They said they weren't going the FA route.
They haven't.

They said they were going to work towards improving the Farm System.
They have. Taking it from something like 29th to 9th in one years time. I'm sure that came "cheap."

They said this year they are going to try and make moves to improve the big club.
They are doing exactly what they said. We are in the running for Teix.

So only FAs make winners? Because they haven't spent top dollar on every FA from 05 to now means they are cheap? Is that all you have to go on?

I'll believe that when I see it, it's being reported that 4 teams are in the hunt for Tex. Only two have made legit bids one being us, reported by multiple sources, and I would guess the other would have to be the Sox (although maybe it's between us and the O's lol)

the 4 teams, i think, are the Angels, Red Sox, O's, Nats.

if we offer 7/150 and he signs with Boston for 7/140, then there's nothing to be said.

if the Nats have the high bid, and he still doesn't sign here, then nobody has anything to complain about. that is my idea of a good faith effort to sign him.

according to Sheinen, the Nats are being very wary of simply being used by Boras to up the price for some other team(which is a very viable worry), while not being in serious consideration. which is why they are trying to keep things close to the vest in regards to offers.

Both of these.

I've never even implied that they have.

That showed in the standings in '08.

Players make winners and in case you haven't noticed we don't have any top flight players because they usually cost money. Who in our 9th ranked system right now do you project to be a top flight player?

That's ridiculous.

I remember a bunch of the "Lerners Are Cheap" crowd saying this but I never remember the Lerners actually quoting this anywhere. Either way, whoever said it, it is stupid.

Trust me it was printed in articles and over TV stations.

Ex-employees and sources not actually in the organization who went unnamed and would not tell what positions they held in the organization. Questionable to say the least. Bic Pens do not win championships.

Haha if it was just the WaPo that had come up with sources that's one thing.  The fact is Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, ESPN, Washington Times, etc have all come out with stories the last two years with current employees/former employees talking about the Lerners and their spending.  Of course those who still work there aren't going to use their own names.  C'mon now.

You really wanted the Nats to overpay for a beer guzzling, burger eating, turd? Please.

Yeah I was heated when we didn't sign him, then I cooled off, but that doesn't change the fact they failed to sign their top draft pick - especially with one of the main ingredients to the plan - being signing draft picks.  The kid is a punk, but it doesn't change the fact that we didn't sign our pick and who knows future draft picks could look down on that.

changing the subject ... let's get Teix 8)

Rosenthal "heard" that Teixeira wants to be on the East Coast for family reasons, may give angels some trouble.

A Rumor and from MLBTR, but hey anything to make it inch closer our way.

That showed in the standings in '08.

It takes time and a little patience. Players are already starting to move up through the system to the Majors and that will only increase in the upcoming years.

Well then anything posted needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Come on, Hammonds, I know you had some Media Studies classes at R-Ford. ;)

The kid was destined to be a cancer and wasn't willing to play by the rules. The Nats did right now signing his dumbass.

Add Stephen Strasburg to that list
I like that we are talking to Boras, he knows we are serious about drafting and signing Strasburg now.

Damn.

Shocking as it is, I agree. Spending huge quantities of money guarantees nothing. Player development? I'll put "my money" there.

Sorry if I don't subscribe to the "give me, give me, now, win, win, win, now mentality."

Mark Teixeira negotiations heating up
11:46 AM, December 10, 2008
LAS VEGAS -- The Yankees' imminent signing of free-agent left-hander CC Sabathia to a seven-year, $160-million deal would seem to take them out of the running for Mark Teixeira, but that will hardly ease the competition the Angels face in retaining the free-agent first baseman.

According to a source from a team who is involved in negotiations, the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles "are coming in hot" on Teixeira, with the Nationals apparently willing to offer the slugger a 10-year deal for more than $20 million a year and the Orioles willing to go nine years for at least $20 million a year.

The Boston Red Sox are also aggressively pursuing Teixeira. For more details, go to latimes.com.

even i will third that for sure.  it would be an ultimate dagger though if we can't even sign him at that kind of contract.
