Walks don't drive in runs in most situations, but they keep rallies going, at the very least.

But you're ignoring slugging percentage, which is very important here.  Dunn has 26 home runs in those ~420 at bats, as well as 20 doubles.  He doesn't get so many hits, but when he does, he really makes them count.  That's why he consistently has RBI totals that hit 90+.

Everything reported about mid market teams, even the Diamondbacks who blews tons of money on Johnson, says that multiple 1st round picks have to be taken into account in the overall budget.

In that case they can always feed us the bullcrap that our draft picks are our big FA signings.

That's freaking laughable. But to offset the potential of runners being thrown out in attempting to get an extra base on a hit there is also the potential of errors by the defense that could lead to more runs and advancement.

The Nats have seperate budgets for draft picks and for signing free agents/improving MLB roster.  I hope everyone knows that.

Where have you been?  They've been doing that.  Their excuse for not spending more this year and last was that they were "improving the farm system."  Forget the fact that you can have a credible mid-budget ML roster AND improve your farm system if you aren't a cheap SOB.

Exactly. The Lerners are probably waiting for other teams to make offers like 10/220 so they can show how "WILLING" they are to spend big and make a 10/200 offer that has no shot of being accepted. Some have already said here that all they care about is that they make a good offer and show willingness to spend.

I'm not talking about happy attitudes I'm talking about learning how to win freaking baseball games which we as a team do not know how to do yet. We need a player who is used to winning and will not accept losing (see: Derek Lowe, etc.).

Walks plus hitting and not hitting into DP's makes for a fearsome hitter. Strikeouts are among the least damaging outs you can have (you can even steal 1st!!!)

how does signing Tex for say, 8-10 years, with an out clause at 5 cripple the team "for years"? 

I don't see any circumstance where you'd take Dunn over Tex(if you can get him), other than simply taking the cheaper option.
