Detwiler, in my opinion, was the MVP of the game last night in a game that was full of candidates for the Nationals. Those four innings were extra tough when you consider that Detwiler still has the mentality of a starter and prefers the routine of every five games to the sporadic appearances he gets in the bullpen. He really showed his worth in that appearance. I don't ever see him being a great bullpen piece and I hope he finds a starting job somewhere else someday but he has shown that he should be kept here this season as a potentially important long reliever, allowing Stammen to be used in late-inning situations when we have the need, where he has thrived when given the rare chances.
One thing that isn't being talked about enough (for good reason to some extent) is the sliding catch Werth made in the 14th to bail Detwiler out, though. If he doesn't catch that ball, the game ends right there. That play was huge and it was really nice to see from a guy who has been struggling to get his bat going in the last couple of weeks. All around, that was one of the best games I have ever seen and I wasn't able to even start watching it until the 10th. Overall, the Nats flashed the leather like I have never seen before, Desmond's error be damned.
EDIT: I'm dumb. Werth bailed out Storen, not Detwiler, in the 14th.
