The contract was always bad and you were right. But for heavens sake everyone knows starting pitcher wins and losses are meaningless. His ERA in 2019 was 3.25. People often use FIP as a better predictor of the future but that was 3.49. He was one of the better MLB starting pitchers in 2019.

His K rate peaked in 2018 and 2019 and has slid to levels unacceptable for a modern MLB pitcher.  He also had a career low HR/9 in 2018 that the Nats have been paying for, because since then he's been hit hard.  He's aging badly except instead of getting injured, he just gets worse and worse at getting outs.  It's a tossup between him and Keibert for who wins the Lerner & Rizzo "Play the Contract" award.

Hmmm. The Nats are using tomorrow’s off day to skip Corbin’s turn in the rotation.

yes. I thought that might happen when, at the start of the 17 games in 17 days stretch, they switched his spot in the rotation with Parker's. I suppose if Herz pitches well today, they may keep him on schedule for Friday, but more likely they would slot Corbin in on Friday and get Herz an extra day.

Sounds like he’ll be slotted in the fifth spot.
