Earworm for Wednesday and Thursday was "under pressure" with Bowie and Annie Lenox (from the Freddy Mercury tribute). Today it started as Dream Police, but I found myself back to Under Pressure.

somehow, the mind wandered today to Smackwater Jack off Tapestry.  Something about Big Jim the Chief pursuing Jack south after Jack shot up the congregation, and the conclusion that all in all it was a very good year for the undertaker got in my mind. Lost song but I forgot how good the electric piano and guitar was because all I remembered was the lyrics.

pretty generic. Yes, the rhythm and melody could have been from 40 years ago, but the lyrics are empty. Mick's got a nice command of language now through his life, but he didn't use it to say anything. Also, they used to blend in side instruments. I like stripped sound, too, but it's the same old Keith and Ronnie sound simplified. I suppose that's all that's left in terms of personnel, but it kind of felt mailed in.

Probably other ones closer but reminded of this one. Pre Ron Wood.

Yeah, it’s kinda hard to be street fighting men when you’re 80 year old millionaires. I like their music but I’m old.

The more I listen to this the more it sounds like Dave grohl could have written it.

Nice. the 3 songs they did from tapes were a little too mellow and simple for my Beatles favorite list, but it was definitely a period John-written song. strings worked quite well.

I wonder if they'll rework free as a bird and real love with the better technology? I think real love had more potential with a better mix.

Just shown 'The Beatles And The BBC' over here, this evening. Looks as though it was made in cooperation with Apple Corps, so I'm sure it'll get shown in the US. Good restored early '60's footage, and well worth a watch. Granada TV (ITV) - the region which covers LIverpool did a similar program, back in the '80's, with their footage - some of it is on You Tube as individual performances (search for 'Beatles Granada TV').

And here's the TIbetan Book Of The Dead, set to music (what a track!)...

Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham are touring doing a Van Halen tribute show. They were on Stern yesterday and sounded great despite little rehearsal. Sammy’s voice is still pretty good for 76. Must be the tequila.

Just got tickets for the Bristow Jiffy Lube Live show on July 20. Sammy says he's reached out to Alex, DLR, and Gary Cherone to join him. I assume Wolfgang as well. I know he's still on bad terms with Alex going back to Eddie and Alex being upset about Sammy describing their drinking in Sammy's book. He did patch things up with Eddie before Eddie died. I can't imagine David Lee Roth appearing, but one never knows. Sammy said they weren't on speaking terms when they toured together a while ago as Dave was a prima donna and made everyone's life on the tour difficult.
