We are 10-4 against the Braves this year. We got 4 more against them this week in Atlanta.

Nice.  But what I really want to do is sink the Phillies and Mets.

Apparently this loosing to us is a sign that your organization has hit rock bottom

Yes, the Dodgers boards were full of the same sentiment, i.e. being swept by the Nats was proof positive that your team had dropped the soap.

The Braves came into this series with the worst ERA since the All-Star break of over 6, and they proceeded to get worked, giving up 24 runs in three games to see that rise up even further (now one of two teams to have ERAs over 6 since the ASG, with Baltimore being the other).

Without Smoltz, Glavine and Teixeria, the Braves are a long way off from being competitive, and a lot closer to the Nats than the Mets or Phils.

if these youthful Nats can remain on fire, and the Braves continue to destruct, we could possibly put them in the cellar! the upcoming 4 game series @ Atlanta is gonna be huge in that quest.

--the Braves need to get rid of Bobby Cox, he's senile.

Same here. It just makes you wonder who exactly is the "lowly" team now. I hate the Braves and it couldn't happen to a better team.

The Braves last won a 1-run game on the road on August 9th, 2007. Since then they have compiled 28 straight one-run road losses.

Some posts from the Braves' message board referencing the Nats:

Quote
The Nationals have a young, exciting team that will compete next year. Bonafacio, Hernandez,
Dukes, Milledge, together with Guzman and Harris look like a team on the rise.
They just need some more pitching to be competitive.

The Braves look like a team going backwards. There is not much speed on the team and there is a lot of dead weight. The pitching is weak and to look forward to the same rotation and bullpen next year is disheartening.

Quote
If you look at the Mets, Phillies, Marlins, and Nats, they have guys up and down their lineup that have good speed. This allows them the ability to put pressure on the defense, pressure on the pitcher, and help them manufacture runs. The Braves on the other hand, have two guys in their lineup, that are basestealing threats: Gregor Blanco and Josh Anderson. Unless this team starts to address this lack of speed (all the talk about getting a Burrell or a Dunn who have no speed), this team is going to continue to have to play station to station, and pray for a 3 run jack. Not going to happen enough, that we are in a position to win anytime soon

Quote
Ya gotta love the gutty, gritty Nats. They've been down so long that they deserve to get it up now and then. They are a true underdog MLB franchise.

Quote
Wouldn't it be funny if the Nats win the East next season? They certainly have the up and coming players, with alot of speed throught the lineup, and alot of hitters with alot of upside and HR potential.

Nice comments, but I think it shows that they don't know that much about us. We have some young talent, but I think we're still a couple of years away from competing. We need to address the first base issue at some time.

Regardless of the validity of the comments -- it's nice to get noticed for a good reason for a change ... you can't deny the Nats are playing very good, very clutch baseball these days  -- it's fun to watch ...

This is what I expected to see at the beginning of the year.  If there hadn't been so many injuries I think the Nats would be right around .500.  But the injuries absolutely killed the team.  A little more expreience, a well placed fa or maybe two (one for the lineup and one for the rotation maybe), and maybe one more season and we'll be right there.  They're not as far away as this season would indicate.  The FO does need to stick their necks out a bit and spend a little to help push over that hump, but otherwise, we're not that far off, IMO.

If only speed = wins

getting on base + speed = more wins (or at least more runs, especially with a healthy Zim, Dukes, Milledge, Guz and FO to be named to knock them in)

EB's assignment for the offseason, learn some plate discipline.  He needs to be on base more than he needs to get a hit, walks will do wonders for this offense.  It's not probably all going to come in one offseason, but progress this one would be nice.

Yeah .. 6 game win streaks suck ... 12 game losing streaks are way more fun
