Pretty good medical team we've got.  Nailed this one in three weeks.

oh big shocker, wonder if that affects his hitting as well.

Id like Dukes to stay up for the rest of the year and get more practice to show us his year potential

Stress fractures seem like nasty business. WTF is wrong with us? Dukes better not be Escobar V2, or I've had it. We need to stick with guys that suck but are healthy so we don't get our hopes consistently dashed.

lmmfao.

here comes the "Kearns was hurt all year, and was playing through it like a gamer" excuse for his piss-poor play.

this all but guarantees us that we'll see WMP and Kearns every day again next year, because of this crappy excuse.

Wily Mo didn't really seem hurt, but Kearns did have a sleeve on his elbow all season. And we KNOW he's better than how he played this year; the same can't be said for Pena. So I'm willing to let him COMPETE for next year's RF position with guys like Bernadina and Maxwell. But it should not be given to him.

Although, Kearns is hitting the DL not because of the elbow.  The injury is a stress fracture in his left foot.  Acta recognized as early as a week ago that Kearns had been trying to play through some type of pain.  I am surprised it took them so long to shut him down.

That's going to be one expensive ass on the bench next season.

True, but his early-season struggles you can probably attribute to his elbow, and who knows if he's 100% since coming back. I am also surprised that it took them this long.

But then again, with the Nats, a sctratched finger could mean season-ending surgery.

Maybe Kearns isn't smart enough to feel pain.

"I think I'll wet my pants."
-Harry Doyle, Major Leage II

Looking at next season, as much as I would love to say the deserving spots go to Milledge and Dukes ... I can't because Dukes hasn't shown he's healthy.  He has the raw talent and the tools to be a stud for us, but needs to show he's healthy.

Austin Kearns - when healthy - hasn't shown he can be a solid contributor ... other than the year he came over and his rookie season.  He's making money next season and no team would be foolish to take him off our hands.  So expect him to be on here next year.  I would love if he could be our fourth outfielder and spell a regular from time to time (no matter how much we're paying him).  He plays his butt off and I really want to root for him deep down inside, but he just hasn't done anything big for us.

Wily Mo Pena has hit 30-40 bombs earlier in his career, but I think the rest of the league's pitching caught up to him.  Spring training will be big for him.

Roger B. only got a small sample, but we were looking for him to get on base a lot more than he was (kinda like Emilio now).  He shouldn't be a corner outfielder, so unless they move Mille over to LF or RF, he's being blocked and is looked upon as a 4th/5th guy.

Ryan Langerhans - has really shown me a lot this year.  We always knew he was a stud with the glove, it's been his hitting.  He shortened his swing in Columbus (thanks to Rick Eckstein?) and has come up with some big at bats and walks for us.  But still not the everyday power guy we covet, so he marks another 4th/5th/late game defensive outfielder type.

Kory Casto, was thrown around to multiple positions, never has shown power up here.  Like the kid, his attitude, his versatility and for the most part his plate discipline ... but expected a bit more.

Justin Maxwell, most of us all know and like, but he hasn't stayed healthy in his pro or college career.  I like the potential there, but what a huge, risky move to rely on him as an everyday outfielder.

Leonard Davis, never projected to be a top prospect, but has had a solid season ... is he in the team's future plans?

I can't mention Ramirez, Burgess, Lowrance, Englund, Whiting in the group because they aren't ready yet.

That's why I would love to get a Matt Holliday who would step in LF right away and we could depend on him for the next six or so years.

P.S. random note, but I would like to see Dee Brown get moved up to Harrisburg.  See what he can do against AA pitching.

Wily Mo Pena has *never* hit 30 HRs.

not even in the Minors.

he had 30-40 HR *potential*, but it never really manifested.

his profesisonal career high is 26. he did it twice. once in Single-A, and once in the majors.

I think the door should hit him in the ass as he leaves after getting demoted. I'm 100% sure he'd pass through waivers today.

I don't even care if we fire Lenny or JimBo that much anymore, as long as the entire medical staff gets a doorknob up the ass.

I think I will weigh in with my two cents.Kearns has not performed commensurate with what we have paid him and has not fufilled our  expectations of him. Because of his contract I expect him to be here next year as the right fielder or as a 4th OF.

WMP according to Harlan , has been hurt for his entire MLB career with the shoulder problem. If he recovers in time for ST as Hammond says it will be big for him. Will the team cut him loose owing him 2 mil? They got rid of Flop , Mackowiak, Estrada and Lo Duca this year so I can see that happening. I think the FO was a little slow in cutting players loose according to our schedules but they have rid themselves of everyone except Colome that we advovated strongly.

I still think the team should try to acquire a LF with the two mentioned above as bench players. In the same vein we should trade DY and have NJ back up or platoon  until he can last a season ( without going on the DL with a season ending injury)with us acquiring a 1st baseman.I know Tomterp didn't think that NJ would accept a role as a back up but what could you reasonably get for him in a trade?

ok, I'm gonna have to call bullcrap on this.  he says he's been hurt for his entire career with this same shoulder problem....but he never did anything about it until this year?  so he's claiming that he's had a shoulder injury for SIX YEARS RUNNING, and only now is he doing something about it?

he hit 26 HRs in 2005, in a little over 300 at-bats.  he's saying that he did that with the same shoulder injury that (supposedly)  is the reason he only hit 2 HRs this season?

bull. crap.

What is it with Kearns, first he can't hit and he needs elbow surgery, then he comes back and now it's his foot.....and all the time he's not saying anything and playing through the pain......pleasssse, gimme a break.
Everytime people start in on his playing, he ends up on the DL list....something is fishy here....something smells... and I was a Kearns supporter, one of the few on the Boards, but there it is, and I'm scratching my head on this one...
   :nono:

And it took 3 weeks to detect this latest injury ......what ,they don't notice people limping, or hopping around on one foot?......Hellooooooo.

Well, isn't that just comforting.....makes you feel like they really know their players....not 8)

As a side note, I give Dukes 2 games, and he will be put back on the DL list.....just a hunch....
