"I think I'll wet my pants."
-Harry Doyle, Major Leage II
Looking at next season, as much as I would love to say the deserving spots go to Milledge and Dukes ... I can't because Dukes hasn't shown he's healthy. He has the raw talent and the tools to be a stud for us, but needs to show he's healthy.
Austin Kearns - when healthy - hasn't shown he can be a solid contributor ... other than the year he came over and his rookie season. He's making money next season and no team would be foolish to take him off our hands. So expect him to be on here next year. I would love if he could be our fourth outfielder and spell a regular from time to time (no matter how much we're paying him). He plays his butt off and I really want to root for him deep down inside, but he just hasn't done anything big for us.
Wily Mo Pena has hit 30-40 bombs earlier in his career, but I think the rest of the league's pitching caught up to him. Spring training will be big for him.
Roger B. only got a small sample, but we were looking for him to get on base a lot more than he was (kinda like Emilio now). He shouldn't be a corner outfielder, so unless they move Mille over to LF or RF, he's being blocked and is looked upon as a 4th/5th guy.
Ryan Langerhans - has really shown me a lot this year. We always knew he was a stud with the glove, it's been his hitting. He shortened his swing in Columbus (thanks to Rick Eckstein?) and has come up with some big at bats and walks for us. But still not the everyday power guy we covet, so he marks another 4th/5th/late game defensive outfielder type.
Kory Casto, was thrown around to multiple positions, never has shown power up here. Like the kid, his attitude, his versatility and for the most part his plate discipline ... but expected a bit more.
Justin Maxwell, most of us all know and like, but he hasn't stayed healthy in his pro or college career. I like the potential there, but what a huge, risky move to rely on him as an everyday outfielder.
Leonard Davis, never projected to be a top prospect, but has had a solid season ... is he in the team's future plans?
I can't mention Ramirez, Burgess, Lowrance, Englund, Whiting in the group because they aren't ready yet.
That's why I would love to get a Matt Holliday who would step in LF right away and we could depend on him for the next six or so years.
P.S. random note, but I would like to see Dee Brown get moved up to Harrisburg. See what he can do against AA pitching.
