Nationals vs. Reds, Game 2
« on: August 02, 2008, 06:08:14 pm »
Cincinnati

Keppinger -- 6
Votto -- 3
Bruce -- 9
B. Phillips -- 4
Dunn -- 7
Encarnacion -- 5
Patterson -- 8
Bako -- 2
Fogg -- 1

Fogg was roughed up by his former team in his last start, against the Rockies on Saturday. He gave up seven runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts in just 3 2/3 innings of work. It was a stark contrast from his previous three starts since returning from the disabled list, in which he gave up a combined six earned runs. He threw 93 pitches in the outing, with just 55 going for strikes, and is still recovering from a split upper lip he received by taking a line drive to the mouth during batting practice July 22. He needed 30 stitches. Fogg last faced the Nationals July 5 when he pitched six solid innings and gave up just one run on six hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Washington

Bonifacio -- 4
Harris -- 5
Milledge -- 8
Kearns -- 9
Flores -- 2
Casto -- 3
Gonzalez -- 6
Langerhans -- 7
Bergmann -- 1

Bergmann had another quality start last Sunday against the Dodgers, but he ended up with his seventh straight loss after allowing two runs on six hits. He hasn't won a game since May 15 against the Mets. In the second inning, James Loney homered, and Juan Pierre scored on a Russell Martin single three innings later. Talk to Bergman and he will say that it wasn't one of his better outings.

I'm searching high and low for that middle finger smiley, is that the sort of graphics you were expecting?

Hey, did you get my email yesterday?  I was hanging out at the Loft but didn't see anybody, though hooked up with DaveBinMd during the game.

Dukes has been benched due to arriving late. Langerhans has taken in his place.

What a dope.  I've updated the lineup accordingly.  Milledge in the 3 spot.....ugh.

Dukes benched for arriving late...whatever. I guess that's one of Manny's rules, i wish benching terrible players was one of his rules (BIG EARS).

i won't flat out say we're gonna lose b/c Dukes was benched, but our chances of winning have decreased greatly.

I'm not Manny Acta's biggest fan, but I applaud him here.  You need to stick to the rules, especially with a player like Dukes.  Maybe we'll see Dukes in a pinch-hitting role.

and i was worried that Dukes wasn't in the lineup b/c he re-aggravated his knee injury, so i guess this is a relief.

QFT. I remember Manny doing the same thing to Lastings earlier in the season. Hopefully it's just a 1 time thing.

Yeah.  A fall like that after such a high last night would be pretty rough.

I'm hoping for a decent outing from Jason tonight. The bottom of their order is gross but the guys in the middle (Phillips, Dunn, Votto, etc.) are capable of hitting the long ball.

Dumb decision by Dukes, good decision by Manny.  Hopefully it will not happen again.  I think that Langerhans might actually do alright tonight.  While I am not going to say that he is a great player, he sure has been playing well in his last few appearances.  Let's just hope his bat has not cooled down.

Since being recalled from AAA on July 12th, Langerhans is batting .375 (9-24) and has scored 9 runs.  His OPS in those games has been 1.008 and he has hit 4 2B and a 3B with 2 RBIs.  While I fully expect for him to compensate for these numbers, it would be nice for him to maintain a level close to what he has been doing as of late.

For your sake, lets hope you don't have to see any remnants of the miserable baseball they have played in the last week (excluding last night)... more miserable than usual that is.
